Can anyone tell me what Sto lat means?

Anyone know what "Stolat" means. I checked translators and dictionary with no results.

exactly it is "sto lat" what means (one) hundred years, in context: "we wish you (to live) one hundred years"

I've heard in the context when someone sneezes, though this may have been ironically meant LOL Marek

It has, indeed, the same function as 'bless you' in English when someone sneezes. At least, I hear Polish people using it all the time.

FYI: "sto lat, sto lat, niech żyje, żyje nam..." It's a 'toasting' song, equivalent to 'happy birthday to you...' Loosly translated: may you live 100 years. And yes, it's also used as a 'bless you' after a sneeze.

I knew it all along. Merely confirmed what I thought. "Niech żyje..", I'm also familiar with from, among other declamations, "Niech żyje Polsce!" = Long live/Long life to/God bless Poland! Marek

Long Live Poland - Niech Żyje Polska Polsce would mean to whom. it's dat. while Polska is nom. Thus, I wish all the best to Poland = Życzę wszystkiego dobrego Polsce.

Interesting. Guess I was thown off slightly by the "Niech żyje WAM!"- idea. I asssumed Dative. Live and learn-))))

".....Niech żyje NAM.." How about if you're addressing others in the plural with whom you're on a 'ty-basis'?-:) Isn't 'Wam' more or less equivalent to the German 'Euch', also written with initial caps.??

it is but if you're talking about the actual lyrics of the song, it is "Nam", as we wish ourselves and our country all the best. with all the remaining, You're absolutely correct :)
