I am looking at buying a second hand car in Poland , and have been looking at what is on offer on the Ottomoto site....Some of the cars seem really cheap , too cheap to be true.....I realise that the price given on the ones marked with the Allegro tag is just the starting bid , but what about the others...? I saw a nice looking merc for 500 zloty , that can,t be correct i am sure.... I know when i was looking to buy a house i kept seeing houses for sale that gave only the price of a square metre , no sorry mr estate agent , i want to buy the whole house , not one dam corner of it....Is it the same for cars , is the price i am looking at just the price for one wheel , and i have to guess on the price of the whole car....Give me a clue somebody....No wonder Poles buy em in the UK ...buying one in Poland seems to be much like trying to draw up a peace treaty between the north and south Koreans.....I just want to go look at a car , see the price , give em the dosh and go....is this possible....Please take a look at the Ford courier listed below....it says 1700 zloty...can i pay 1700 zloty and take this car away......??????

I have good mechanical knowledge , so i am able to see if a car is good or not , i just need to know if the price in these adverts is actually the price of the car...some of them seem a little cheap...even if they do need some repair...

Again, old pile of scrap, damaged, they say it's NOT the price of the car, you have to call them (???)

I had a feeling it was not as simple as that....why can,t they just put what the dam price is...?

In the UK if a car is advertised as 500 pounds , the price is 500 pounds...you go along , give them 500 pounds , the car is yours.....In Poland the price advertised is 800 zloty , but thats not the price of the car.....No wonder Poles go to Germany to buy a car , must be so much easier....!

I don't know what's up with the prices. I sold a car on Alegro and the price I put was the price I sold it for. Well, minus 500 zl after negotiating. We signed a contract, the guy gave me the money, I gave him the keys and he left. Don't worry, I counted it first.

Why not just leave it at a garage and pick it up later if it's worth doing so? If not, you could always just park it somewhere and report it stolen...unethical what?

Oh come on, please do not turn this into comparison between the glorious UK and Poland.

Most if not all of these ads clearly state in the description that this is not the price of the car but some specific parts (mostly engine).

Sellers are probably scrap yard owners who buy these broken old cars and sell them for parts. Usually such cars are not functional and would require some work to ride (probably too much to be worth it), but they can be valuable for people looking for multiple parts to put into their own cars. It's more convenient to advertise such thing as a whole car instead of a two dozen of parts separately.

You should simply ignore the offers that are obviously below the market value and read the small print :)

for peace of mind, you would be better going to Germany. the clocks are not wound back, the cars have not been driven on Polish roads and you are less likely to buy a cut and shunt

I am off there next weekend of pick up a BMW

So is in Poland. If you see a photo of a car and the price 100zł it doesn't necessarily mean that someone is selling a good car for 100. Just READ the descriptions of the adverts, or ask someone to translate to know what they are really selling.
If you want to filter out such adverts just look for prices higher than say 10000 zł.

Cinek.
