PM Tusk in announcing plans not to stand for prresident, said:
'Ja nie chcę uczestniczyć w wyścigu, którego celem jest pałac i zaszczyt, ja chcę uczestniczyć w batalii, której celem jest cywilizacyjny postęp.'

Podstęp may indeed be more appropriate in view of the gadget-infested, rip-off world we live in. My question however was to find a good way to translate cywilizacyjny into English.
Maybe someone should coin the adjectival form civilisational.

Re 'dobra osobiste' I found reputatiuon infringement at this site. Seems to be about the closest so far:

I think you might use "rat race" which in absentia of a better term will do nicely.

It's been coined already - google it.

With the use of "cywilizacyjny" the author is likely underlining the scope of the progress.
Considering that civilization is in the same semantic field as culture (society), perhaps cultural progress might fit your needs.

He may have good intentions. After all to civilize is to bring out of savagery or barbarism into a state characteristic of civilization.
Can postęp/progress be brought out of a primitive, savage and barbaric state and made more polished and sophisticated? That is the question.

Maybe the best translation of 'postęp cywilizacyjny' would be socio-economic progress.
