Very large dictionaries such as my 3-kg (6.6-lb) Wenster include the terms ideative and ideational, but one doesn't find them used much in normal speech or writing.
Is there a good translation for ideowy other than idealistic or ideological? In Polish idealistyczny also exists.
Is there some semantic difference between ideowy and idealistyczny?
What about ideowiec - a man of ideals, man of principle, idealist?
And ideowość - idealism, altruism, devotion (to a cause)?
Anything better?

Yes there is.

Ideowy is derived from ideology
Idealistyczny is derived from idealism

Ideowe założenia doktryny, ideowe założenia manifestu, ideowe założenia partii politycznej etc.
Idealistyczne podejście do życia, idealistyczny altruizm, idealistyczny charakter

The title of this thread doesn't say much. Would you care changing it, P3?

OK, let the heading read: A good English translation for ideowy?

And further on the subject...
How would ideowe założenia doktryny or manifestu differ from ideologiczne założenia?

And it's the English equivalents I'm most interested in.

ideowy has two meanings
1. (ideologiczny) [e.g. about doctrines or manifests] ideological
2. (bezinteresowny) [e.g. about people or their attitudes] idealistic

So in the context you provided only ideological fits.

Those two words are very close in meaning - synonyms.
