I am writing to a prisoner in S E Asia who is from Poland. He feels he was tricked into his current position, and is therefore wrongfully imprisoned, and I want to ask him the details of the case, but I do not want him to say anything in English that his guards might understand as critisism, which is why I want to write this crucial part of this letter to be in well-written Polish.

The rest of the letter will be written in Polish that I already know, and I will also use my own English.

---

Dear:

I read that you felt you were set up/tricked by the DEA. Could you please explain to me everything that happened? Maybe there is something I could do to help?

Please write this part of your letter back to me in your best Polish. This is because, as you must know, it is against the law in this country to critisise the government, and I do not want to get you into any trouble.

I will, however, send you as much help as I possibly can, and if it is within my power, I will find help to work on your legal case, as well as sending you care packages, etc.

---

Many thanks

Reksio

But Delphianmine is right-be careful.Prisoners often say that they're innocent.Keep yourself out of trouble.

It is difficult to explain the legal system here where I am. It is often corrupt, and what this guy says, it rings true. I speak Asian languages, and I am also very au fait with the culture.

I am also very fond of Poland. I have worked with some wonderful Polish people. I even dated a Polish guy for a long time. I would happily have married him had things turned out differently, but I am married to my English husband now. I studied law at university, and because I cannot work for money (my husband prefers me to stay at home), I choose to work for free for the church I am part of, and this is also something I am passionate about.

If he has to serve his prison sentance to the end, he may not be back in Poland till he's in his 70s. This would be a terrible waste of a good life, and he has no previous history of crime in Poland, or any other country. he was originally sentanced to death. I am against this with all my heart, being Roman Catholic.

I have worked with many prisoners who have been wrongly accused of crimes (murder, drugs, etc), and I have tried to get justice for them all, and this man sounds innocent. I have a lot of experience of this. I am given a list of people (so many people in prison serving huge sentances in Asia, mostly for drugs related crimes), and I read their cases... this guy just stood out.

Thank you for your kind translation. I cannot thank you enough. I will make sure that I tell this guy about how people have helped me, and maybe I'll post something about him online so I can get some publicity about his case, if he has not had a lot of press in Poland.

Because you mentioned husband I'll ask one question-are you really male? It's not my curiosity.I ask because it's important in translation and since I know that in Asia you can't get married if you are homosexual...
My translation is adjusted to male author.

There is a lot of marriage going on in Asia, but I'm not Asian. I'm British :) Technically, homosexual couples can't get married anywhere, as that is a religious conception, but many countries in asia and europe are starting to recognise same-sex relationships legally. The country I am in is very liberal towards homosexual people, and is seen as a pioneering country in the world, towards gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered people.

But I think I might have given the wrong impression. I use the name Reksio becasue my full name is Alexandra (which is a bit like Rex), and my friends call my Lex. My ex from Poland used to joke with me and call me Reksio, and I know it's the name of a cartoon dog who is male, lol. Better than being a bitch he said, lol. But I am female.

I do want to thank you for taking the trouble to make my translation perfect. It means a lot to him because he doesn't get a lot of contact from people who are from Europe, and there are so many problems in the capital with riots, etc, not many people are brave enough to visit.

I want to help him as much as I can, but a lot of it will be through being in touch more than anything.

dziękuję :)

Reksio (aka Alexandra)

Being set up by DEA is a possibility. Anyway, to write to prisoners even just to keep their spirits up is Christian act of charity.

I'm only guessing, but he was smuggling heroin. Not long ago, there was a program on Polish TV about Polish prisoners in Equador. A particularly sad case was a couple in their sixties doing time for smuggling. Their daughter bought them the dream vacation. Imagine that.

Have you ever met a prisoner that was NOT innocent?

Surely you are aware that gay marriage is pssble in: the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Norway, Sweden, Portugal, Canada and South Africa and that there are plenty of other states in Europe that condone gay partnerships?

You are from the Netherlands? NL was the first country in the world to allow gay marriage.
