Does "Ja Ciebie też" always mean "I love you too" as this is the only translation that I can find...

To put it into context, I wished a very close friend (I told her I loved her some time ago, but she's in Poland and I'm not so it's awkward...) goodnight with "Ściskam mocno na dobranoc" and "Ja Ciebie też" was her reply.

Did she mean that she loves me or was she merely returning my hug, this is quite an important distinction!

"Ja Ciebie też" doesn't mean "I love you too". It means "I ...(you put here verb) you too". So when you told her "ściskam mocno na dobranoc" she replied "I ściskam (verb - hug) you too."
