I need help coz my GP can't explain fully whats written on this note in English to me.

Wynik Badania Mikrobiologicznego.

Materiał: Wymaz z cewki moczowej
Preparat bezpośredni: Pałeczki gram (-).

Identyfikacje: 254 Corynebacterium SPP.

Antybiotyk 254 Nazwy handlowe

Komentarze: Półilościowa ocena wzrostu, + (pojedyńcze kolonie)

The results of microbiological examination

Material: an urethral swab
Direct preparation: Gram-negative rod

indentification: 254 Corynebacterium SPP (bacteria name)

antybiotic: 254 names

comments: semiquantitative groth of , +(single colonies)

Somehow it did help but the problem is that Bacteria which is written in LATIN i guess and why Polish labs identify Bacteria using LATIN instead of Polish it puzzles me.

Does anyone out there knows what this bacteria Corynebacterium is in English?

There is no "English" equivalent. It's like Staphylococcus ... there is no English equivalent for that either. For "your" bacterium, look here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corynebacterium) or here (http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/215100-overview).

Maybe because Latin is the language of medicine in most of the world?? Just a guess...

If it makes you feel any better the word "Coryne" in Corynebacterium is actually derived from Greek and not Latin. LOL

well, doctors always use a latin name for such things :) You just have to google the name to read more about the bactery. Here you you have some general info about the Corynebacterium which give you an idea what it is about:

Corynebacterium is a genus of bacteria that is very common in nature and can be found in soil, water, plants, animals, and humans. In humans, these bacteria are most commonly found in the skin and mucous membranes. Most corynebacteria do not cause disease and are part of the normal, bacterial flora of the human body, but the species corynebacterium diphtheriae can cause diphtheria, an illness that usually affects the upper respiratory tract and can be fatal. The corynebacterium is a single-celled microorganism that is non-motile, meaning it does not move, and aerobic, meaning it can survive in oxygen. Corynebacteria are also Gram-positive bacteria, meaning that because of the composition of their cell walls, they turn dark blue or violet by a substance called Gram stain used to classify microorganisms.

This genus of bacteria has been extensively studied since the 19th century, mainly because of its link to diphtheria.
