Greetings,
My grandmother has a religious plaque her mother bought on a trip to Poland in the early 1900s. We've wondered what it means for quite some time and I've been trying to figure it out for a couple days now. It reads in capital letters "NA PAMIĄTKĘ ZE ŚW. MISYI.". Google Translate has pointed me toward something along the lines of "In memory of Saint", but "misyi" is stumping me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

misyi = misji (old spelling), from misja - mission.
Missions are evangelisation events organized by the RC parishes.
It's a plaque to commemorate such an event.

Thank you so much! I am much more enlightened about that now.

Please forgive my reliance on Google translate. My ancestors were from Poland but no one left in my family seems to speak it. When I change the spelling of "misyi" to "misji", the translation doesn't seem quite right. It comes out "In remembrance of the mission s". The space between "mission" and "s" isn't accidental. Would it be possible to translate the words as a whole knowing the change from y to j in misyi?

In remembrance of the holy mission (event).

Try the Google again, maybe you misspelled something. When running "Na pamiątkę ze św. misji" through it, I got "in memory of St. mission", which is basically correct, you just need to substitute "holy" for "saint" as misja is not a person.

Cheers :)

That makes so much more sense now. Thank you very much! The accents were also throwing me. Next time I will make sure to use them. You have no idea how much my family and I appreciate this!
