I'm working on genealogy research in Poland, and I've found some people with the same surname as myself in a town my great grandparents came from. I would like to write to them to find out if there may be a possible family connection. However, I obviously don't know if they speak any English, so I would like to initially write to them in Polish. If somebody would be willing to translate the letter from English into Polish for me, I would really really appreciate it. If you're willing, please send me a private message with your email address, and I will email you the letter.

Regards,
Joshua

I appreciate michal_857 for giving me a translation and taking the time to do it. I'm probably being paranoid, but I just want to make sure the message is easily understandible in the Polish language, or if there's anything I should really change around. First is the original message I wrote, and then the translation michal_857 did for me.

To whom it may concern,
I've been doing genealogy research for my family for several years, and have traced my great grandparents back to Biadoliny Poland. I was wondering if we may possibly be related in some way. I've been unable to find out much information about either of my grandparents in any of the public records that have been available to me. If we do have a common ancestor, I was wondering if you would be willing to exchange some information with me.
I live in the United States, and don't speak any Polish. I found somebody that was willing to translate this message for me. If you do speak English yourself just let me know. If not, I will continue to do my best to converse in Polish with you.
I'll give you some of the information that I do have, to see if you recognize any of the names.

Walenty Stolarz born 1879 in Biadoliny Poland. Died in 1939 in Hammond Indiana
Married to:
Anna Banash (Banach/Banas?) born 1879 in Biadoliny Poland. Died 1967 in Hammond Indiana

Walenty had several children, but his son Bernard is my grandfather. His wife Helen Stolarz (Maiden name Mastej) has been in contact with some of our family in Poland over the years, but she wasn't able to give me very much information.

The other family line that I have been able to trace a little bit was Jozef Stolarz. I've been able to find out that his father was named Wawrzyniec Stolarz through an old workbook I found. I also found a letter that was written to him by his sister Karolina Stolarz, so she was obviously his sister. She spoke of a fiance' in the letter, but unfortunately never mentioned him by name. Jozef Stolarz never married and never had any children. The connection to my own family would be that Wawrzyniec would be Walenty Stolarz's uncle, making Jozef Stolarz his cousin.

Hopefully you'll recognize some of these names, and would be willing to help me out further. Or if you don't personally, maybe somebody else in your family would know something more. I really appreciate your time, and hope you have a good day.

Regards,
Joshua Stolarz

Walenty Stolarz, urodzony w 1879 w Biadolinach, zmarły w 1939 w Hammond, Indiana, (USA), mąż Anny Banash (Banach/Banas?) urodzonej w Biadolinach w 1879, zmarłej w 1939 w Hammond, Indiana (USA).

z wyrazami szacunku,
Joshua Stolarz

These online translators like poltran.com don't seem to help me very much. I got a response from somebody. Would anybody here be willing to translate?

Witam!!!
Pozdrawiam!!!!

Hi,
I read your mail and I am sure I'm not related to those Stolarz family you are asking about. There have been a lot of families with this name in Biadoliny, not necessarily related to each other. My grandmother many years ago leased arable land from a person named Banas. Banas later moved to USA, but I don't know if this is the same person. My parents are dead, so I can't ask them. Actually I live and work in Englad and I don't have anyone to ask about your family. I suggest you to ask in a vicarage of the parish church in Biadoliny.

Yours/greets

1. forgive me grammar errors in translations - I am still learning
2. name 'Stolarz' means 'carpenter' or 'jointer' what may deceive electronic translators

And another haha...

Witaj

Pozdrawiam Anna Stolarz

Hi,
I talked with my parents. My father think he recognizes one of the persons you described but he is not sure about it. My parents told they will ask older aunts in our family, maybe they will know something about Stolarz's ancestors.

As soon as I will find out anything more, I will write you.
Sorry that I call you 'you' but we are the same age.*
I will write with you in polish because my english is too poor.

* - In Poland we often call strangers 'Mr/Mrs' (Pan/Pani). Form 'you' (Ty) is used in informal contacts between family members, friends, mates etc.

Here is something that You might like:

'Moi krewni' means my relatives and this shows where You can find them.
As you can see Stolarz name is popular in the area around Biadoliny.
Good luck

I've found in a local newspaper an article titled "Dawnych wspomnień czar" ("The charm of old memories") written by Teofila Kolodenna (born 1 may 1928). She writes mostly about WWII in Poland, but there are also few interesting fragments about her ancestors:

[...]Moja mama, Pusz Anna z Powroźników, urodziła się w wielodzietnej rodzinie w Biadolinach Radłowskich, powiat Brzesko, województwo krakowskie. Było ich dziewięcioro: Karolina, Stanisław, Maria, Honorata, Jan, moja mama - Anna, Piotr, Józef i Adam. Siostra mamy, Karolina wyjechała do Ameryki i tam została.[...]

[...]My mother Anna Pusz (maiden name Powroźnik) was born in Biadoliny Szalcheckie, Brzesko district, Kraków voivodeship. Her parents had 9 children: Karolina, Stanisław, Maria, Honorata,my mom Anna, Jan, Piotr, Józef and Adam. Karolina went to USA and stayed there.[...]

Maybe newspaper's editors will be able to help you, their e-mail is: pomoc@glogowek-online.pl

That may be worth checking out with the newspaper, I'll definitely look into it. Thanks also for translating that letter for me again, I appreciate it. Do you know if there's a good website where I coul start learning some Polish in relation to sentence structure, and grammer and such. I feel like most of the places I find just go over some common words and how to say them...but it really isn't helpful when it comes to trying to read a message in Polish from what I've seen. I just hate having to make somebody here translate every single letter for me. Especially since I should write her back, but then I'd have to have somebody translate yet another letter for me haha.

Also, thanks "ThatGuy" for the link to that website. I found that website a couple days ago actually, and find it interesting that even to this day all the Stolarz seem to be congregated in the same area.

Regards,
Joshua

Here's what I found, the first page is a collection of various links, some in Polish, some in English, so hopefully you'll find something useful there. The second one is quite useful, as it's got pronouns and conjugation tables, although in my opinion the book is not very user-friendly :/

Greetings,
I apologize for taking so long to respond to your message. I was recently married a couple months ago and have had a lot of things to do. Have you been able to speak with any of your family and possibly find out any information for me? I appreciate your time, and look forward to hearing from you.

Merged thread:
Translating a letter into Polish, please

I wrote a similar letter, and had it translated several months ago. I didn't send it however due to not having good enough documentation. I now have the birth certificates of the people I need, and would like to have my letter retranslated by somebody here. I will be contacting a couple of parishes in the area where my ancestors came from. If you could translate this into Polish, with the proper grammer, I would really appreciate it. Also if you have any suggestions on wording, or my requests, please say so.

Below is the letter:

Hello,
I have been doing genealogy research on my family for a number of years, and have been able to trace back to my great grandfather Walenty Stolarz, and his wife Anna Banasz. My grandmother informed me that they both came from Biadoliny, Radłowskie Poland, and I've been able to find proof of this on several documents for Walenty Stolarz, including his immigration papers, his World War 1 draft card, as well as his United States of America, Naturalization records.
Walenty Stolarz had several children with Anna Banasz, one being Bernard Martin Stolarz. Bernard Martin Stolarz also had several children with his wife Helen Mastej, one of which was Bernard John Stolarz. Bernard John Stolarz had one son with his wife Loretta Rose Phillips, and his name is Joshua Phillip Stolarz, which is myself. I have attached a copy of my grandfather Bernard Martin Stolarz birth certificate, my father's birth certificate, as well as my own birth certificate in order to show proof of this relation.
I would like to know if you have the marriage record for Walenty Stolarz and Anna Banasz, as well as the birth certificate for Walenty Stolarz, or Anna Banasz. My information states that Walenty Stolarz was born in August, around 1877-1879, and married somewhere between 1900 and 1903. I unfortunately don't have any parents names for Walenty Stolarz. My information on Anna Banasz shows that she was born in May, around 1877-1878, and that her father's name was Jan Banasz.
Any information would be greatly appreciated. I thank you very much for your time, and look forward to hearing back from you and learning what the next steps may be to obtaining some of this information.

Sincerely,
Joshua P. Stolarz
