Old Photographs of Family (want translating them)

Hi All I have a number of old photographs containing members of my family from Poland. Two of them have some writing on the back, if I was to scan these would anybody here be able to help me in translating the few words that are on the back of them? Thanking you in advance for any help. Richard

you might need to upload them to an image hosting site like imageshack if the scans are big.

pgtx, you are a star, thankyou very much its just a shame it gives no clue as to who they are!

They are photographs which were in my grandads collections so I can only assume that they are family or friends. I guess I was assuming that perhaps they were my great grandparents or similar.

I am starting to learn Polish myself but I guess it will be a long time before I can translate things like that myself. I find the writing style very hard to read so can't simply type it into google translate!

This is from the times photographs used to be a big event, people would dress up nice. Now you get thousands of photos of someone just pulling faces in a bar with a glass of beer in his hand.

I have literally hundreds of postcards and letters. Everyone surely tells a story of my family history.

I actually had one translated that I randomly picked out and it was the first letter sent to my grandfather after the war from one of his sisters. His whole family thought he had died during the war and the first news he recieved about his family in the letter was about the death of his mother. It was actually very sad to read, but interesting at the same time.

The right way to do it is ALT + 0246 ... ;) Despite, you wrote Koeningsberg, which also has an "n" too many. Sorry for nitpicking, but with anything related to genealogy and/or history, you have to be accurate. Otherwise you'll end up with wrong leads.

Run into running etc.,I imagine makes it easier to pass over. TheOther: The right way to do it is ALT + 0246 ... ;) Doesn't work with all font maps though. The alternate method is a useful fail-safe to know.

thankyou very much everybody, it is really appreciated but could i be ever so cheeky and just ask for this one more!?

the story is my grandfather was taken by the germans in 1943 and never saw his mother or father again after the war as he came to engand. they a thought that he had been killed but luckily they found eachother again through the red cross. he didn't see his sisters again until around 1970 which i think is summed in the one which says

thankyou strzyga, that one is interesting. i recognice the man as been my great grandfather but my great grandmother died in 1945. I know that he re-married n 1946 so maybe the lady in the photo is his new wife and it looks as though he may of had another chld. I wonder who she is and what happened to her, maybe she is still alive. thanyou again Richard

Well I'm not sure about this one.
If you look at the backside of the photo, on the left there is a stamp saying Modern Photography Studio 'Ars', 6 August 28.
But then there's another stamp with the date July 1948.
So either the picture was taken in 1928, or the photo studio used 20 years old paper, which is quite possible - 1948 was just 3 years after the war, everything was still in short supply and if they had some old photo paper saved from before the war, they might have used it.
If you know when your great-grandfather was born, you may be able to judge by his age.

ok, my second thought was that the 6 Sierpnia 28 might be an address and not a date, and bingo - I've googled it and such address does exist:

so the picture was taken in 1948 and it's probably your great-grandfather's new family. Good luck in finding his daughter, she may well be still alive. Krawczyk is a popular name but you've got more than that to go from.
