Polish word that sounds like "DUM-pee"

When I was very small, we called the man whom I thought was my grandfather something that sounded like "DUM-pee". In checking on-line, what I found is that the Polish word for Grandpa sounds like JAH-jah. Would someone be able to tell me what we actually were saying? Thank you!

what I found is that the Polish word for Grandpa sounds like JAH-jah. No it doesn't - that's merely what the Polonia think is the word.

No it doesn't - that's merely what the Polonia think is the word. Yes it does. That Polish word is "dziadzia", but how would you know, you are not Polish.

JAH-jah. other folk's phonetics = confusion for me. jahjah: and i see jaja i suspect the 'j' is more like 'dz'

Yes it does. That Polish word is "dziadzia", but how would you know, you are not Polish. Wrong. The Polonia use "Jaja" for some bizzare reason - not the same.
