Basically,

You listen to me you piece of English crap-I love my family even though we are poor and it matters not in the least who will still write to me because you are zero to me. I love my life but hate you. The thread author is female claiming that the insult was for her when in fact this email is written to a man by a woman. Checking your lover's mail are ya Kath? Polish men in UK, always make a mess...

PS: It's not so common for a woman to call a man 'szmata' in Polish, it's usually the other way round. And no haven't heard people referring to each other as 'rags' in English. I heard ragheads but that's something completely different :P.

I do not wish to argue with you guys. However, szmata in Polish means a rag (please check with a dictionary); dirty and worthless are implied adjectives describing it. The word szmata is used to describe a woman who has low moral standards and is worthless. I have never heard the word used to describe a man. The word has also a feminine ending. ta szmata, and not ten or to szmata

Szmata can also mean cloth. Ona jest szmatą, it's only used for women.

I think Bzibzioh meant the ending, and is right, when insulting people you don't care too much about grammatical nuances... "ona jest szmatą" as an insult does sound somewhat unnatural.

First off, intonation plays a part. Szmatą can be accentuated when insulting. Second off, Ty szmato would be used as a direct insult!
