Hello.

I really like a polish girl I know and I want to ask her:

"Will you date me?" in Polish.

She's my age (17).

Please help! Thanks.

?

does 'go out' means 'date' in Poland as it does in England?

My proposition is for long-term dating.

If you are serious about her, you should show it. :):):)

If you insist on a single stand, then the simple: Pójdziesz ze mn± do kina/teatru/galerii/muzeum/na kawę/ is much better. Would you like to go to the cinema/theatre/art gallery/for coffee with me?

it's not being pedantic. Polish and polish have two different meanings.

To be fair to this guy who asked the original question, even though he is suspended [can suspended members still read the topic?], you wouldn'r normally say 'Chce z toba chodzic.' That is like saying 'I want to date you.' Who says that to a girl? You usually ask to take her somewhere.

Would you like to go out with me?

Would you like to go to the 'wherever' with me.

so in Polish that would be

Czy chciala bys ze mna isc do 'kina' [or wherever, na randke?]. Or czy poszla bys ze mna do 'kina.'

To be honest there are many ways to say it and it does sound a bit like something you might ask a friend but they way you say it makes it obvious. I think your option pawian is not one I have heard. Perhaps you used it though and it worked, I dunno. I am against Polish girls going out with guys from other countries, they can if they want, I am against it though, so hopefully she says no. Does that make me a racist or prejudiced or whatever? Dunno, possibly. Who cares. It's a view of mine and I have a right to it. I'm not overly keen on mixing it up so much.

It's been ten years since I left Poland. Well, I'm keeping going there back just for holiday once a year. Nice to see that some phrases are still in use by new generations. I was 15 years old when a 17 years boy asked me:" Chcialabys chodzic ze mna?". These words were the opening phrase to start dating between teenagers. Once I used to teach young people and spoke their language. Now I'm listening to Poles in UK, 24-27 years old, and can't recognize myself in this Polish language. Sadness.
Has anybody seen "Wojna domowa" soap? Very funny and provides a clear meaning of "chodzenia ze soba".
BTW, I'm a newbie on this forum. I've been living in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire county since 2010 and during this time I've grown fond of Her Majesty people.I'm keeping learning English language but still disappointed with my progress. I decided to join the forum after had followed various topics for a while. I just want to get better with my writing skills. Okay, it isn't just writing. It's about managing the whole language which is so rich, so beautiful and so damned hard to " domesticate". Could you help me with it, please.
