there were plenty of civilians who were gathered around Anders army forming in the Soviet Union and many where allowed to leave for Iran when Anders army evacuaeted from the Soviet Union - while males were mostly obliged to join the army (if not aged or in bad health) women and children were moved to various camps first in Iran, then in India and British African colonies - the łagier comes from German Lager and in German it is a broad term which is more or less English camp - if someone uses łagier for a camp she must have been familiar with the Soviet łagier (like being sent to Siberia)

Her father was lieutenant, he got Volunteer Cross for War and Volunteer Medal for War and The Cross of Valor.
Volunteer Cross and Medal were awarded by Polish government in exile after 1945. This acomplishments were not recognized by communist government and were rather a drawback for a family in Poland wishing to go to UK. If he would come back to Poland at that time he would be probably imprisoned by communists. I can't imagine that a family of Polish lieutnant under government in exile command would be legaly allowed to go to UK.
