Can anyone give a good shot in translating these food menu terms into English? Thanks in advance:-)) I have a good idea for most of them but interested in hearing others versions.

ryba po grecku - I can't ever recall eating it at any of the 6 weddings I have been.



Based in Warsaw, Ursynów district.

Below yours I have put my version. Let's remember, it's for a wedding, so there are certain formal ways of coining such dishes. I'm afraid my sister who is a chef will laugh at my amateur translation so that's why I've put it up here:-))Too many cooks, in this case, do not spoil the broth!

połmiski mięs pieczonych, plate roast meat

'Platter of cold meats'

połmiski wędlin szlachetnych, plate smoked/cured hams and sausage

'Smoked platter of noble meats' - But are they all smoked?

'Vegetable Platter'

'Greek fish' is literal but hardly accurate cause the fish is probably from Thailand.

Nothing negative about Broth, Isn't it a tradition as the first course (of many) at Polish weddings (and with sunday dinner i believe too).

No, broth is simply a style of soup http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broth

I'd say 'pasta strings' or 'spaghetti' as 'strings of pasta sounds a bit clumsy.

'Smoked platter of noble meats' - But are they all smoked?

It sounds a bit strange to say 'noble meat' (although it's correct, of course).
Perhaps give it a name like 'meat of the manor' or "the squire's selection" and just explain it is a selection of meats prepared in a particular way.

Broth is quite normal, yes.

Herbal sauce??? Herbal toothpaste maybe :) In a mixed herb sauce is probably the best.

Layered wedding cake is good.

All smoked? You have to check if they are wędzony or not as many aren't smoked.

that description reminds me of 'Minestrone Soup' as thats a thin soup with spagetti/pasta strings

Bear in mind that it's "wędliny szlachetne" not "szlacheckie".
Szlachetny would mean "choice" or "luxury" here (as opposed to a platter of kaszanka, kiełbasa krakowska and mortadela) ;-)

I think "charcuterie platter" is the best translation here (yay inkrakow!)

Noodles would sound better and are more associated with clear chicken broth in that part of the world.
