mafketis: Well in the US (IME) "good day" isn't a greeting, it's a way of dismissing someone of lesser status. "No that won't be possible. Good day." (with the 'leave, now!' part unsaid)
Don't know if you're still around as the thread is 2 years back, however yes in the UK "good day" 9 times out of 10 is used in the same way - that is "you irritate me, conversation over, go away". It is not used so much by the younger generation, but when it was used the sentence would be something like "That's my position, and now I'm quite busy. Good day to you...[if the person continues bothering him/her then it is repeated more abruptly] I said GOOD DAY! "
