My grandmother always used phrases that I'm unclear about. She said something like "y yenny kohaney" and said it meant something like Jesus Christ. Is this correct? How do you spell it? Also, we always called my grandparents busia (pronounced boo-sha) and dziadzia (ja-ja). Am I spelling these right? Thank you very much!

PurdueK8: "y yenny kohaney" i jedny kochany - one loved one - but yes kind of an exclamation! PurdueK8: busia there is a whole thread about this in these forums.. not sure if it includes discussion about dziadzia.. but yes, grandma and gramps.

Indeed, Jeny Kochany is a euphemism for Jezu Kochany. In English we also have cripes for Christ , geez for Jesus and and gosh for God. At one time the name of the deity was not taken lightly, so euphemisms were used instead.
