Hello Folks,

Seasons greetings, this forum seems to be the best place to make friends here in warsaw, to start with, i'll need a lot of assistance from the locals here.

1. I am here in Warsaw on a long project, staying at 45 Grysbowska. Can you'll help me with info on a few things, nice to know DO and DONT's.

Where can i find a laundry here and what is it called to start with ? No point googling if i don't know what to look for. What are laundry charges for dry cleaning, do they have urgent services ? std cost ? i don't like being ripped. Neither would i like to see others being ripped in my country.

2. Any good polish restaurants that a foreigner with a palate for hot food would like i.e. A decent and hip polish restaurant where they will talk to you and prepare as per palate.

3. Good pubs to chill out. Any places not recommended to go, i've a Brit-Asian collegue with me.

If there are any friendly folks out here who would like to show me around the city, i will much appreciate. Now off for a drink in the hotel bar.

Chesht

Eddy

there are no laundry mats in Warsaw. Most people have a washing machine in their flats. I have thought that this would be a great business opportunity- but nobody seems to agree. I don't get it actually.

Dry cleaning- there are loads of places, all priced quite well, you will have to visit them to figure it out.

Grab yourself a "Warsaw Insider" they will have everything you need to know, you can probably find them laying about in your hotel lobby or buy one in the hotel gift shop.

it is little things like this that leave me scratching my head. seriously, no laundromat in Warsaw. When we lived here over 14 years ago our first flat didn't have a washing machine- of course we didn't know before we rented it that there were no laundromats, so we hired a cleaning lady and she took our laundry home with her and did it there- of course she smoked like a chimney and when we got our clothes back they stank of smoke. It was disgusting.

I'm fairly sure I can see your apartment from my office.

1) The others are correct about general laundromats, but you can get dry cleaning done at any place that says "PRALNIA". Closest one to you is Al. Jana Pawla II 25, next to the Cafe w Biegu.

2) "Decent and hip" aren't words I'd associate with Polish cuisine. And by hot do you mean cooked, or spicy? Spicy food isn't massively popular here.

3) There aren't many Cheers-type pubs where the same crowd hang out every evening. The few that are are ex-pat places like Jimmy Bradley's, where foreigners go to forget they're living in Warsaw. But a place to start drinking is the collection of Pavilions behind Nowy Swiat 23.

There's actually an extremely good co-operative laundry in Zoliborz, quite near me. It doesn't just do dry cleaning - it does a traditional laundry service. Not too expensive - I only use it for dry cleaning, but for that they're a fraction of the price of 5 a Sec and get rid of stains that places like that don't quite manage.

It's just off ul. Ko╝mia˝ska in »oliborz. In a single story building (the only one around) near the garages - you can't miss them. The sign over the door just says 'Pralnia'.
