I remember back in high school; a Polish girl came to Canada; she became very attached to me because I was one of the only Polish speaker she knew around...anyways...I've noticed she used funny words instead of saying "ku*wa" she said "kurno" :P I was confused and I thought it was really funny lol I'm like "eh? Kaska...what's a kurno?" (her name is Kasia too :)) she said "oh...just don't want to say the actual word...of ku*wa"...so I've decided to use instead of "ku*wa" I would say "oh kuc!" ...what other words did you use to change the swear words?? :))

Just thought to add this...I remember getting into a silly argument with a friend..."ah bic kym...etc" she thought I said the actual word "Bi*th" in English :P I tried explaning to her that I said the other "bic" not the "B" =/// AGH! (I'll never forget this lol) I'm not liking the word "bic" lol ...does it ever happen to you?

Pizda

I don't mind people using swearwords in an elaborate way (which can be quite entertaining) but 'pizda' is a word I really hate - the sound of it and the connotations it evokes :/

The level of swearing here is quite appalling (in Poland). Many things Polish women do and say are unattractive and tasteless

I meant the use of swearwords, not the swearwords per se.

I'm doing research into the reactions of people to attacks and, without fail, this is the most common one. Of course not only here. I wonder what causes that reaction. To deflect discussion away from that issue to saying that is it only in this country. Interesting

I barely do any swearing at all :)) lol I just hear from others ;) I remember a friend of mine took me to some Polish bar (I heard lots of random - swear words - that I've never heard or understood the meaning of it)...one was "polabana?" this guy was like: "ta agatka jest polabana!" I had no clue what he meant...I brought it home to tell a friend...mom heard...I got in a big sh*t from her :P I should never bother going with a friend to a bar but she dragged me big time lol (I'm not really fond of them) hehe oh well...

Pojebana probably. I find a lot of language hateful and disrespecful, thrown too casually. My family swears delicately and tastefully, here it is out of control at times. Like, come on, say sth positive and put a smile on ur face

Yeah thats the word. I've probably haven't heard many other different swear words...guess mom & dad were pretty decent, to keep it really low (they were too proper like) ...that I feel like a virgin at a Polish bar :P

Hehehe, dzewica or sth like that. My Mom and Dad are far from prudish but they'd cringe if I translated some of the gutrot I hear. Mindnumbing ear assaults

'pizda' is a word I really hate - the sound of it

Before I catch up on this thread, I'd just like to say this:

It almost sounds like pizza. Do other words with the same sounds in upset you quite as much?

I hate the sound of words like constable', countryside, cuff, clobbers and itch.

The English equivalent of p***a is useless as an anatomical word, but ideal for swearing - it has the hard-sounding K and T at either end for spite, an N that adds some extra negativity and an 'I don't give a monkey's' schwa vowel of a U just to give it the one syllable it deserves.

K***a mac - Can have the same meaning and intonation as 'F***ing hell', but not always.
Ja p******e - To me, this usually sounds a little more positive.
G***o - A bigger word than its English counterpart, but seems to be used a lot less.
Kurde - Oh dear.
Sp******aj - Please go away! I like this one. Would it be a different form if you wanted to translate Monty Python's Holy Grail motif 'Run away!'?
C***a - What you drive if you don't have much money.

That's quite enough from me.
What off-topic discussion is going on now then?

No... the word 'pizza' doesn't upset me at all ;) I don't know what's wrong with 'piz*a' - I just don't like it. It's seems way too vulgar and simply ugly...

I have the same with some Polish words (again for no reason apparently), e.g. I hate the word 'macica' which stands for 'uterus' (and generally all the words ending in -cica ;)).

Jova, many women feel the same way about the word ****, so I do understand.

I would like a few translations, if that's alright with you lot.

For crying out loud.
Sugar plum fairies.
Oh bother!
See you next tuesday.
