Berent, Jaroszewski - Looking for relatives in Mostowo in Mlawa County

Hi. I am visiting Poland this summer and would like to locate relatives if I can. My grandmother was born in Szrensk in 1902 and grew up in Mostowo where her father was a miller. (I have been told that the windmill still stands.) She came to the US to visit relatives in 1914, but when the war started she was unable to return. She visited a sister and some nephews in the 1970s, so I know that some of the relatives survived the wars. I want to locate my cousins. If anyone can help me and give me some suggestions as to how to find them. Her fathers name was Andrej Berent and her mother's name was Franzciska Jaroszewski. I have a handwritten letter from her brother, Leon, written in the 70s I think, but I can't even deciver the date or address. I have shown it to someone who speaks Polish but even he says he cannot decipher the old-style script. I have a pretty extensive family tree including all relatives from my mother backward 3 generations, and all relatives forward for 3 generations that were born here in the U.S., but no one has any information and the family that remained in Poland after World War 1. I would appreciate any suggestions as to how to locate my family in Poland.

BERENT: Polish adaptation of German name Bernhard (from Germanic roots ber = bear and hard = strong; therefore bear-strong or strong as a bear).

JAROSZEWSKI: root-word jarosz (vegetarian); most likely originated as a topo nick from Jaroszewo (Vegetarianville).

There were nobles both amongst the Berents and Jaroszewskis with coats of arms to prove it.

You might try sending him an email, in Polish, if possible. If he can't help you, he can direct you to someone else in the family who can.

Thank you all so much. I have searched on facebook and found a few Berents. One young man actually looks a lot like I remember my Great Uncle. I sent messages but have received no replies. I did see the listing for the business in Mostowo but figured I would have to wait until arrival to try to contact. Thank you for the contact information. I will look into all the other suggestions. You have given me much hope. Only hope that Google Translate will be readable since I do not know any Polish and don't have contacts who can help. Thanks, Polonius3, I always felt like my grandmother was regal. She had a very special way of carrying herself. And was named Victoria, after the queen.

Don't count on it. It often comes out as complete nonsense. You are better off writing in English.
