Sobaniak family

Hello, new poster here... I was just curious if anyone could help me with my genealogy research. I feel like I've been scouring the internet, some books, ancestry.com, jewishgen, and other databases to go deeper in to my Polish ancestry and seem to be getting no where. As it's recommended to stick with one family line and go back, instead of skipping around, I want to try to get more information about the surname/family Sobaniak.

This is the data I have so far, via Ancestry.com...

My gr.gr.grandmother: Rose Sobaniak, b. 27 May 1917 in Illinois. d. 18 May 1993.
Rose's Mother: Mary (Wierzba) Sobaniak, b. 26 Sep 1897 in Poland (not specified), d. 21 Feb 1981 in Oak Lawn, Cook County, IL.
Rose's Father: Ludwik Sobaniak, Jr., b. 15 Aug 1892 in Skawica (possibly Skawina?), Galicia, Poland., d. 18 May 1954 in Cook County, IL.
Mary's Mother is listed only as the surname Gotka (Golka), which of, I am assuming it is actually Gołka but was confused. Mary's father is listed only as her maiden name, Wierzba.

Ludwik's father is Ludwik Sobaniak, Sr., b. Abt. 1872 in Austria, Galicia. With no death date listed.

This is a two fold question... one, is obviously to try to go further back in this line... another is to research the origin of Sobaniak name in general. Also, is there any relation to Sobanski?

Thanks in advanced!

SOBANIAK: patronymic from first name Sobiesław or toponymic from Sobanice in Mazowsze or Coбaнцeeвo in Russia. Not directly relatet to Sobański but derived from the same or similar root. Five gentry lines amongst the Sobańskis.
