Hi,
I am a Bossick too. My father was Benjamin Bossick - but his birth certificate said Boleslaw Krawiec. His mother was Mary Bossick (Krawiec) married to George Bossick. Brothers and sister of Benjamin are: Dorothy, George, Stanley, William and John. My Uncles Stanley and William are the only ones alive that I know of and live in Cameron, NY now. Mary Bossick had a sister Anna, that we called "Auntie"....not sure why. Anyway, she was much older than Mary. Both she and Mary died in 1967.

I am trying to find out who MY father's father was. He was "adopted" by George Bossick in the 1920's when Mary married him. Prior to that, I believe he was known as Boleslaw Krawiec. He was born in Jersey City (so the certificate says) and baptized later on (the certificate was issued much later) in Our Lady of Czechtahova church in Jersey City NJ. The person's who were his "sponsors" were Anna Krawiec and Alexander Kasprzak. Never heard of him before. If you know anything of this family history I'd love to hear what you have. I have been searching to no end with no results. Basically my grandmother Mary Bossick told everyone her first husband died. I cannot see how that could have been possible since she was Anna's sister supposedly and both maiden names were Krawiec. Anna was about 12 yrs older than Mary. Both came over to the US from Poland in the early 1900's but I can't find out which one of the boat lists has the right Mary Krawiec. Anna's parents were Josef Krawiec and Rosalia Drozd Let me know if any of this rings a bell.

I don't think you are the same family as I keep running into a Boleslaw Krawiec in Passaic that is not my family. My father was born in Jersey City supposedly and his birthdate is 05/29/1915. They lived in E Rutherford right across the river from Passaic and there were lots of relatives so maybe there is a connection but your Boleslaw isn't my father. My dad's name was changed to Benjamin Bossick and he married my mom Helen Grapkowski from Jersey City.

Hi,
Just saw your post. My grandmother was Mary Krawiec who married a George Bossick. Her sister was Anna Krawiec Kalinowski. Anna had several children so your relative in NY may be some relation. I would have to know more names of relatives to see if they are a relation. Since so many relatives are not living any longer it is difficult to search or ask family questions. My grandmother Mary Krawiec had a son in 1915 Boleslaw Krawiec. I believe he was either illegit or something. Anyway, she later married George Bossick in PA and had several more children. Anna Krawiec Kalinowski was her sister who got married at St Anthony of Padua in Jersey City. I have more info on Anna but little on Mary.

I'm not sure if this will help you.
My grandmother's name is Zofia Krawiec. She was born in Nowotaniec (or Nagórzany). Nowotaniec is a village near the town of Sanok, in podkarpackie county, Poland. She got married to my grandfather Stanisław Krukowski.

semanchuk.com/gen/data/debbieg/NowotaniecBanns/volume5.html
Her parents were Józef Krawiec, a shoe repairer or a shoemaker, and Rozalia (I think her maiden name was Drozd). Rozalia was an orphan.

Zofia went to the USA to visit Anna Krawiec at 130 Podge St, Jersey City, NY (Ellis records show Jofia Krawiec, who came from Bremen on S.S. Chemnitz. The date of arrival is October 9, 1903, but the ship arrived on September 26, 1903).

ellisisland.org/search/FormatPassRec.asp?ID=102698030167&BN=P0026 9-8&sship=Chemnitz&lineshipid=21453

Zofia left behind in Poland her son Benedykt Krawiec, who was born on March 14, 1901 in the village of Nagórzany near Sanok. Benedykt stayed in the care of his grandparents Józef and Rozalia. As in the case of Bolesław, we don't know who was the father of Benedykt. He is survived by his second wife, also Zofia, who lives in Kraków, Poland. (His first wife was Wiktoria.)

There is a story that Benedykt's father came to the USA but died because he had an accident in a factory.

Zofia longed for her son, Benedykt, so she returned to Poland. She had stayed in the USA for about four years.

In Poland Zofia got married to Stanisław Krukowski, a resident of Lviv (Polish Lwów).
Her oldest son was Tadeusz Paweł Krukowski, born February 2, 1910 in Sanok, Poland.
Tadeusz emigrated to Canada after WWII and lived in Toronto at 104 Geoffrey St. He changed his first name to Paul. He got married to Maria and had three sons, Karol (Karl or Carl), Andrzej (Andy) and Marek (Mark). Apparently uncle Paul visited Anna (Hanusia) Krawiec in Jersey City, NY long time ago. He might have visited Maria (Marysia) and Roch Krawiec.

Józef and Rozalia Krawiec's children:
Roch Krawiec - born 1886, Zoffia Krukowska (maiden name Krawiec) - born 1879/1880, Paulina Stark (maiden name Krawiec) - born ?,

Anna Kalinowski (maiden name Krawiec) - born 1883, Mary Bossick (maiden name Krawiec) - born 1894, Jan Krawiec, Andrzej (Jędrek, Jędrzej) Krawiec,

Ideusz (Idek) Krawiec
There was one more son. My mother doesn't remember his name. He froze do death in a forest when he was returning home with unsold shoes from a market. He probably wanted to take a rest, went to sleep and never woke up. And it was winter.

Ellis Island records show that Maria Krawiec came to the USA on July 11, 1911, on S.S. Kroonland from Antwerp.
Actually, it says Maryanna Krawiec, ethnicity: Austria, Polish, Place of residence: Noevztanye, Austria. (Polish Nowotaniec)

Maria came to visit her brother, Roch Krawiec whocame to the USA on March 28, 1911, on S.S. Vaderland from Antverp. Ethnicity: Austria, Polish. Place of residence: Nagorganz (Polish Nagórzany), Austria.

And Roch came to visit Anna Krawiec (Kalinowski), NJ 74 Suisex St.

Greetings,

My name is Patricia Ann Piermatti and I am the daughter of Lillian Collins (formerly Kalinowski) Piermatti. Anna Krawiec was my maternal grandmother. Yesterday, I came across these Krawiec family posts and they provide valuable detail for stories my mother told to me as I was growing up.

I am an only child. My mother died 26 December 2000 and my father, Louis Matthew Piermatti died March 14, 1992. My parents and I moved to Clifton in May 1955 and I am still living in the family home. From 1952 to early May 1955 we lived in Grandma Anna (Krawiec) Collins house at 135 Paterson Avenue, Wallington, NJ. Benjamin Bossick and my mother were close cousins and played together often while growing up.

My mother's family name of Kalinowski was legally changed to Collins in the 1940s...I will post details in near future.

I wouldn't know. I speak neither Italian nor Polish. Being raised American in an ethnically "blended" family, I really don't identify with either culture. I am an American of Italian and Polish/Austrian/Galician/Russian heritage. My mother's siblings made Italian jokes and my father's sister did not like the fact that mother wasn't Italian. So, with two dysfunctional families my parents and I lived our lives fairly separated from both clans. With age, I have become interested in my genealogical origins and wish to fill in some details to the oral histories both my parents passed along.

BOSYK: meaning the bare-footed guy was probably the original spelling of Bossick, which was respelt to make it sound more English.

BTW the original meaning of a name may be of cultural interest ot some, but basically after a generation it became just another name. If you viist a Dr Baker for a dental procedure, you wouldn't ask him: "How many loaves of bread have you baked today?" What started out centuries ago as an occupational nickname has long since become just another surname.

it means 'tailor'.
Like the German 'Kravitz'..
It is why there are so many Jewish people called 'Taylor' in English speaking countries, direct translation.
A very very common name.
