I am the decendent of the Hart or Hort family.
My grandfather migrated from Lutowiska poland in the early 1910s. His name was Nathan Hart and I know that he had siblings that migrated to both Israel and Italy. Can anyone help me locate records or any information that might help me find my family.
Please contact goldtown@optonline.net if you have any information.
Thank you so mcuh,
Sharon

HART: if Jewish/German it would mean hard, difficult, harsh, severe, etc. IF Polish, it might be a misspelling of chart (greyhound). 88 people in Poland today use it. 90% of pre-war Poland's some 3 mln Jews perished in the Holocaust, making tracking down Jewish relatives rather difficult.

Thank you for replying. I am a novice at the family searching but I have a stong need and will to find my family.
My grandfather spelled his last name Hart but I have a letter from his family in Isreal where it was spelled Hort. I know that this part of my grandfathers's family survived and migrated to Isreal and Italy. I also know the name of decendents in Isreal as I was there about 37 years ago.

there is a 19 year old, Naftali Hort, from Lutowicho who entered the US in 1907. Check Ellis Island Records.

The spelling is as it appears in the record.

not an exact match, but it is worth checking.

Dear Wroclaw,
Thank you so much for your posting. Naftali is my Grandfather's hebrew anme and now is my son's. I had no idea he came in through Ellis Island and didn't even think to use hos hbrew name or for that matter Hort as my mother's family always spelled it Hart. I didn't evenn think of speeling it Hort until last week when I found an old letter from his sibling in Isreal. Now I need to find the rest of his family.
Bless you for this.
Sharon
