Is it possible the name was changed from Ziemkiewicz? Americanise it, if you will? You are an American, yes?

If so, http://www.surnamedb.com/surname.aspx?name=Zienkiewicz

That's what I found with the help of google..

The meaning of the name Zieminski:

Polish (Zieminski): habitational name for someone from Ziemin in Poznan voivodeship, named with ziemin ‘ground’.

Dictionary of American Family Names, Oxford University Press, Mar 2003
