Ellis Island or something else to find about my grandparents?

I have gone thru Ancestry.com trying to find out where my grandparents landed and I cannot find any mention of them in any of the ship logs or where they landed. Where else would I look?

ellis island only has records between certain dates.

i think castle garden might have something.

if folk left from Poland then u should try hamburg records. main departure point was germany not Poland.

besides this, new york was not the only port of entry. some might have entered through canada.

However, check the name spelling and all results at ellis island a few months either side of what your best estimate is.

also, try: familysearch

Galveston TX was a major Southern port and entry point as big as Ellis Island in NYC. Check there as well.

Many passed through Hull docks, crossed the UK and travelled on from Liverpool docks(both in England) to carry on the journey.
Records are kept somewhere...sorry if thats vague but as above working backwards can often give clues, for instance if you trace someone to Liverpool you will find which port in the US or Canada they were heading for.
