My great grandfather, Martin, came to the USA with his father Stephen @late 1800's to Webster, Massachusetts. I believe they may have lived around Posen, perhaps sailed out of Hamburg, like Franz Kasierski did in 1904 on the Patricia. I cannot find any other information on Stephen and Martin and wife (my Great, Grandmother).. I do know that Martin drowned in Webster Lake at 30 and my great, great grandmother died just under three months later of a broken heart, just days before what would have been Martin's next birthday.

I am new at this, but resourceful. I just need a jump start. How do I find the database that are free or non-scam oriented.

KASIERSKI: possibly a dialectic (Belarussian-influenced?) pronunciation of Kosierski which could have been derived from the plant kosierka (Pedalium -- highly unlikely, because it grows only in India!) or the locality of Kosierady. Over 100 people in Poland sign themselves Kosierski but there isn’t a single Kasierski. (But there are 5 people surnamed Kasierski in the Dortmund area of Germany.)
Or perhaps it was derived from a mispronounced version of kosior, a long-handled tool from removing ashes from stove. Kosiorski might have been an occupational nickname given to the ashman.

Search for Stefan Kasierski, not Stephen. Also, have you seen this:

http://gelineau-homepage.com/gen_13A.htm

Look at # 912 and #914; Carole Marie KASIERSKI and Claudette T. KASIERSKI from Webster, Massachusetts.
