Name or surname Otte. No, not looking for ancestor or family, but, its root of this name/surname. I know Ott, Otto, etc. Otte is definitely not Slavic, but, German or Dutch or least probably Dane, it is ok. But, Otte can be a Jewish version of Ott/Otto or what? What do Germans/Dutchs/Danes say about this?

The surname Otte began to be used some time after the 12th century in Bavaria, where the name gained a reputation in the medieval society. The name Otte evolved from the Old German personal name Ott, a name of Emperors, made famous by Otto the Great (912-973), Holy Roman emperor.

Otte (Not Otto) is popular in Germany? And, its evolvement from Ott/Otto to Otte was made by Germans again, you think? Or, probability/possibility by German Jews in Germany. Btw, this is a Polish name. I am guessing the name was moved from Germany to Poland/Silesia. Thats why I am guessing this is a Jewish version of Otto. Possible?

Possible, but unlikely. Otte and Ott are widespread in Germany.

Thanks for answers. So, this Pole is a German origin then. However, I still keep reservation for Jewish evolvement of name as he is a Pole.

72 people surnamed Otte in today's Poland, 63 of whom live in Silesia (Górny Śląsk and Śląsk Opolski).
