I've been trying to build a family tree of my family. Our last name is Pyszka. My grandfather came from Poland in the 1930's. I can't find any information. Just wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction.
Is Pyszka a common name? Also, does it have a meaning?

Thanks!

I visited my family near the Vistula River near Parsanow. My maiden name is Pyszka. I was able to visit where my grandfather grew up prior to him leaving Poland to escape the war. He did leave behind many brothers and sisters but he did have one brother already in Niagra Falls, NY. He ended up in South Attleboro, MA. My grandfather, Martin Pyszka, came over before 1930, since my dad was born in the US in 1924.

Most of the 974 Pyszkas are located in the northwestern portion of Poland.

The La Salle, Illinois Pyszkas immigrated from Krostkowo, Kr. Wirsitz, Poznan and surrounding villages. Your great-grandfather's parents were John F. Pyszka & Josephine Wadzinski (aka Wardzinski). KOSTOWICZ: patronymic nick from Kostek (short for Konstanty) = Connie's kid.

BRZEZIŃSKI: topo nick bfrom Brzezina (Birchville)

WADZIŃSKI: possibly from wadzić się (to pick fights, start trouble)

JAWORSKI: from jawor (sycamore) or locality incorproating that root such as Jaworów

KAMIŃSKI: variant of Kamieński - topo nick from Kamień or Kamieniec (Rockville).

KOSTOWICZ: patronymic tag for 'son of Constantine'; pet forms of Konstanty include Kosto, Kostko, Kostek, Kostu¶ and, yes! -- Ko¶ciuszko.

My name is Lawrence Parker. I was born Lawrence Pysza. My family came from Peru-Lasalle Illinois, Grandfather John Alton Pyszka, Father born Leon William Pyszka. I noticed that there was a Larry Pyszka from LaSalle. We are probably related.
