My wife’s Grandfather, Wincenty Dec born 1888 in Brzoza Krolewska Poland, arrived in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1929. Travelling with him to Argentina were Michal Szast and Michal Kosina. Wincenty and his companions left wives and families behind in Poland. Wincenty had intended to return home. In 1939 he was about to buy a ticket home but was advised against it by the travel agent because war in Poland was about to break out. He never returned to Poland. He wrote letters home on a regular basis up until 1953.
Messrs Dec, Szast and Kosina seem to have disappeared in Argentina. The families and ancestors of each have tried to find information about their lives in Argentina but without any luck. Letters were sent to the men from Poland many years back but no replies were received. The letters were not returned as undeliverable.
Online records concerning immigration into Argentina, passenger lists of ships arriving in Argentina and such like seem to be almost non-existent.
Can anyone direct me to an organization which can help me trace my Grandfather’s movements in Argentina?
Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.

they may have gone to the usa first

also, check ship's records for those who left Poland. usually through Hamburg.

Thanks. I have tried looking through Hamburg passenger lists on ancestry.com but after 1913 they are not indexed/transribed. So its tough to find specific people. I have looked at passenger lists etc into USA for 1929 but no records appear. I believe we posted something on roots chat but thus far no results.

DEC: hypocoristic (pet) form of Dionizy (English: Dennis)

SZAST: rustling sound (of a loose-fitting garment) or spendthrift

KOSINA: diminutive of kosa (scythe) = small, dinky, miserable excuse for a scythe; ground-hugging plant; toponymic nick from Kosina or Kosina.

Via cemla.com, found Michal Kosina arriving Buenos Aires on passenger ship called Darro on Jan 1, 1929. And found Michal Szast arriving Buenos Aires on Jan 2, 1929 on ship called Alcantara. Both embarked in Cherbourg. No sign of Wincenty Dec though.

we now know this is doubtful

because.

i'd check all records for a month either side of Jan 1/2.

you may have to use a few spelling variations.

Tried wide dates search and spelling variations (althouth Michal Kosina and Michal Szast spelled correctly) via cemla.com (possibly world's slowest website). No sign of Wincenty Dec. We know he was in Argentina. The family received letters from him from there.

Sorry for the delayed response. I have not been back to this site for a while. Are you saying that your great Grandad was called Wincenty Dec and that he was born in 1888 in Brzoza Krolewska Poland and arrived in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1929? do you live in Argentina?
