I would like to find out about my grandmother, Stanislawa Mikanowicz

Hello there,
I have just found your forum, which seems to be friendly and helpful.
I have many questions, but I will start with this.
My father was born in Skragi, Nowogrodek in 1924.
At the age of 15, (1939) he was taken from his family to work in a labour camp (?). He escaped and somehow joined the Allied Forces and came to England after the war.
He told me that his mother came from Kamchatka.
I have recently found my dad's family, and my cousin seems to think that this information is true, but I do not know how to find out more.
Any ideas please?

MIKANOWICZ: one of a vart array of patronymic nicknames turned surnames traceable to the first name Mikołaj. Others include Mikaniec, Mikanicz, Mikulec, Miklasz, Miczek, Mikulicz, Mikuś, Mikuta and many, many more.

Hi,
With regards to your post about Stanislawa Mikanowicz, sadly I know nothing of her directly, but my father in law was called Antoni Mikanowicz
and was born in January 1920 in SKRAGI. He fought with the 5th Kresowa infantry division during WWII, which I understand was largely formed
from Polish men who were captured and interned by the Russians. He came to England after the war and settled in Somerset.
I understand his mother died in childbirth, and was possibly called Maria or MarJa, and his father re-married. Could there possibly a connection here?
Could your father and my father in law be half brothers??
I know he had a sister called Janina (married name KLIMUK) who survived the war and had two sons, who I believe were called STASIO and EUGENIUSZ.

I am hoping that all this may be more than coincidental!!!!

MIKANOWICZ: probably topo-patronymic from Mikanowo.

That could easily be a name of older Serbian woman Svetislava Mikanović :) stop the earth i want to get off
