Hi, just signed up to see if can get some help/advice with tracing my family.
It is my fathers side of the family that I'm looking at/most interested in at the moment. My father is British born however his dad (my grandpa) was Polish.
I have limited information about him, all I pretty much have is a place (Gorlice) and date of birth, a death certificate and some old army documents showing that he came over to the UK in 1945 with the Polish Army (Polish Resettlement Corps) and settled here, before that he was stationed in Italy.
However, that is all I have, searches on numerous websites dont come up with anything or if they do, its things I already have. It's a birth certificate that im trying to track down first really as that may have names of his parents (which I dont know) and then I could possibly go from there to see if he had and brothers and sisters and I will also hopefully be able to go further back to my grandpa's grandparents.
Can anyone advise/help with how I may be able to obtain his birth certificate or any information that may help? Maybe someone knows about my surname? Any information that can help at this point will be a great help no matter how big or small.

Hudak is your surname, I guess? Sounds like Góral or Slovak surname, and Gorlice is in SE-Poland near Slovak border. If I were you, I would travel there and ask in the city hall, or a museum ;)
