I don't know where this stereotype comes from. Polish people have light pale to olive oil skin. I personally get mistaken for Persian or Turkish all the time, and both my parents are Polish. Everyone on both sides of our family has a dark complexion.

Historically, Poles have are the product of mixing. There is no 100% pure Polish look. We've been invaded by Vikings and by Turks, Tartars, Mongolians, etc... so perhaps that helps to explain the wide variety of signatures on our Slavic looks.

My grandfather is 100% Polish and he has the same brown curly hair that I have and the same deep green eyes :p Our last name is Piascik which is totally POLISH :p

what eye color is hazel? every person says something different...
is it brown, green...mixture? what the hell is that?

Many people seem to think that hazel is a mixture of green and brown, BUT I looked it up in the dictionary and it said that it was a light yellowish brown!

A lot of you people are clearly nuts.

Most Europeans have dark hair. What's so unsual about some Poles being darker than average in North/Central Europe. It's called variation.

Do you think blond people came from outer space and settled in Northern Europe, or maybe dark haired and dark skinned humans got there from the south, and eventually most of them turned pale due to adaptation? Probably the latter I would say.

This place is like some sort of mental asylum most of the time. Pft...

Take another look. Northern Slavjans mostly have blonde hair and blue eyes, its a fact. A true Polak has will always have these features, unless they mix with a southren race, arabs, blacks, jews etc.

True. I've been to Poland and not all, but most the people I saw and came into contact with had blue/green eyes and blonde hair, light brown hair is common aswell. No black eyes and no black hair. They usually have distinctive noses, not many have flat and small noses. Usually a roman style nose.

When I was a little kid, I had a set of encyclopedias that went into extensive detail about what different ethnicities looked like, and classified them. I know it is outdated due to genealogy and gene flow information, but it said that Poles as a rule were medium-fair, of medium stature, and mostly had light brown hair as adults.

I imagine that northern Poles would be more blonde as a result of gene mix from Scandanavian countries.

There is another thread which shows a chart of the blondness/blue eyes all over the world. The closer one lives to Scandanavian countries the more blond and blue-eyed people a country has.

I could go through a whole list of Poles I know or have known and give you their hair colours. One of the most common colours seems to be grey, but there might be another reason for this. Family A in Lomza all have dark hair unless they've gone grey. Family B in Slough, although from somewhere in eastern Poland, three have blond hair, one light brown and one dark brown hair and one who used to have dark hair.

Of these 11 people:
3 blond
1 light brown
7 dark brown

Even when I thought of more people, this kind of balance didn't shift dramatically, although definitely more of an increase in the count for light brown haired people.

My mother had blond hair, brown eyes, and a fair complexion-she was Polish/German from the north [Gdansk]
My dad has brown hair and blue-gray eyes and he's 100% Polish from Warsaw. He has twin brothers: One of the twins has blue eyes and blond hair, the other has blue eyes and brown hair.

I have dark brown hair and dark brown eyes-born in Gdansk.
The way I see it, the blue eyed, blond haired Poles mixed with the Scandinavians up north, and the mid and southern part of the country with other Euro-Asian tribes.

I know that there is Mongolian blood in my family from hundreds of years ago so that would explain the dark hair.

I've heard from many people that I kind of look Asian (let alone, I have blonde hair as I said above) BUT I have heard that regardless.

Yeah, I have been told by all kinds of people that I have an Asian eye shape, including Asians themselves.

me too! its probly from poland & hungary

Yeah, I used to get that a lot too. A Chinese person asked me if I was from Korea... Pakistanis have thought me Chinese and "Tai" (not sure if they meant Thai or Taiwanese...)... A half-Japanese/half-German guy thought I was some kind of Eurasian mix too... A Russian said I looked Japanese... A Kazakh said I looked like I could be Mongol or Turk...And both a Pole and an American have said I looked "Asian" (whatever that's supposed to mean...it's a big continent, after all. ;) ). I've had to explain to people that no, I'm not from China, and no, I can not go back there, because I've never even been there once. %) And that the reason I speak English so well is because I was born in the US. Sheesh. It became so tedious always explaining this that I began outright telling people I met "I'm not Asian--at least not to my knowledge--so don't ask." At least, that's what I heard from people who saw me in photos. People who saw me in real life never said that. Go figure. =P

But I don't have blonde hair or blue eyes. My hair's a sort of reddish-brown and my eyes are green-brown. Though I can't claim "100%" Polishness. ;) =P

If anyone's familiar with the "Zakopane maiden" nesting dolls, they should know that at least Gorale can have pretty dark hair.

except for all the polish ladies (esp older ones) colouring their hair the most disgusting shades of red that i could have ever imagined - anything from carrot to some mixture of purple and ruby red - ouch!!

Hey! I've been told I look good with red hair. =P I've dyed it with henna sometimes. But I'm not an old lady.....

Rude to falszywe

Hahaha! It's true! I'm totally dishonest!
