I would like to buy this book.

Do you know any bookstore in Warsaw that have a lot of "language books"? Where I can be able to find this one.

And does anyone have this book (or level 1) on their computer? I would like to check a few things before I buy it.

Thanks in advance! :)

I seem to recall there are several very good book shops on the several floors within Bracia Jabłkowscy's department store located at Bracka 25 near Marshall Street in central Warsaw.

Actually, have just checked Amazon and you can get it there for 30 Pounds. Thanks for the tip off that there is a 2nd book.

Try and find if there is a polanglo bookstore. They have that book plus the hurra books.

Tell them you are a teacher and they give you a discount.

30 pounds? Sounds a bit steep seeing as it costs 42.49/45zł at Empik. http://www.empik.com/polish-in-4-weeks-ii-etap-ksiazka,prod7080159,p

Friends recommend this for English. What about Pimsleur?

Check the Pol-Anglo bookstore. I bought my copy there or try a books store that deals in ESL books.

It is actually called Akademia bookstore and it has several locations around Warsaw. You'll find the list of their bookstores here:

Polart/Poland By Mail has the level 2 book on their site: polandbymail.com

Glad I saw this thread. I had no idea that a level 2 book was out. I'm still plugging through level 1, which is the text we were using in the last Polish class I took. Actually, I still need to finish off the Polska Mowa books from my first conversational Polish class.

and the staff in Empik will shake their heads when you purchase the Polish in 4 weeks stuff as they and any Polish person will tell you -- it is not possible to learn Polish in 4 weeks ... but if people want to waste money then fair play to you!

To be fair, noone would expect to learn everything about Polish in four years, never mind four weeks. Both books are quite good though, and using the dialogs along with the cd's they're quite a good course.

Of course one should also invest in a good grammar book and dictionary to supplement these books as they get more confident.

I have to second this recommendation. It is fabulous. I've been able to wow a lot of Poles with what I learned with Rosetta Stone. It won't get you the nitty-gritty of the case grammar but it will get you quite far.

As Vincent said, no one in their right mind would expect to learn to speak any foreign language in 4 weeks. A few travel phrases, yes. But to speak it fluently, of course not. However, despite the misleading title of the book, the contents seem to be of good quality. At least my instructor thinks so, since he chose to use it as our primary text along with supplementary materials and other books, like 301 Polish Verbs and a Polish-English dictionary.

I suppose the publishers thought a more accurate title like - "Learn to Speak Polish, But Only After Years of Intensive Study and Headaches" was a bit wordy and wouldn't generate the same level of interest and sales. : )
