Cześć ludzie!!!! Mam pytanie!!

I keep hearing something that, to me, sounds like....

dzienki temu......

Can anyone tell me what this means?? I keep trying to figure it out but each time I hear I can't see how it would fit into a sentence! Maybe I'm trying to place it in the wrong context??

Any help appreciated

Krazy Krawiec

It means "Thanks to that......", like you are thanking something for something

Like thanks to that, I can now buy a house.

Dzięki temu,

I'd say 'thanks to that' and not 'thanks for that'. Dzięki za coś is thanks for that.

Ah yes, good old editing :)

Oh I see!!!! Of course!!!!! :D

I love it when something I can't quite see finally clicks in place!!!

I know dzięki is thanks and temu I knew as "ago".. like sto lat temu..

Wouldn't dzięki za coś mean "thanks for something"..?

Thanks for your help!!! Much appreciated!!

Temu in "sto lat temu" is different than temu in "dzięki temu". In the latter, it is the dative case of the zaimek wskazujacy ten/ta/to: dzięki czemu? dzięki temu! In the former, temu is an idiomatic word equivalent to the English "ago", although it definitely takes its root in the zaimek ten/ta/to. See the following sentence: minęło sto lat od tego [czasu/wydarzenia] = zdarzyło się sto lat temu.

...and here you have the example with using this expression "dzięki temu"

Wczoraj ugotowałam obiad na dwa dni, dzięki temu nie muszę dzisiaj gotować.

A question to advanced Polish learners (-:

What is the difference between:

dzięki temu

z powodu tego

przez to
