Hi There Where can I download Dana Bielec's Basic Polish: Grammar and Workbook, free of charge? A pdf file? Please help :(

temp Yes, after googling, there will appear lots of results . . . but there exists no pdf file for "Basic Polish: Grammar and Workbook" by Dana Bielec. And Those files that are available for downloading contain just, for example, references to the above book. :(

I find all her books extremely helpful, especially "Polish Reference Grammar". Not as thorough as Brooks's grammar, but much less expensive and fairly practical for most purposes.

But actually there are several other choices, even if you do not want to pay for the ebook. Since I am the visitor here I am not allowed to post any URL here, so read the next line carefully then convert the dots and slashes yourself:

I followed your instructions . . . but . . . such sites as you said are available after registering and paying . . . all of them. I don't why there are lots of pdf books about other languages on the internet . . . but good books for polish are rarely found :(

I am sorry that the previous link did not work for you. But you seem not trying hard enough. It just took me about 15 seconds to find a polish site "chomikuj dot pl", with another of the Dana Bielec books, Intermediate Polish in PDF format (3898 kB). Sure, they want something from your in turn (either acceptance of one SMS message from their sponsors or registration) but that's another story and your choice.

So really, stop complaining and go back to search. :-)

The problem is that Intermediate Polish Grammar is to be found everywhere - it's the Basic one that is not to be found.

As long as grammars go, nothing can beat the completely legal and free materials by Oscar E. Swan at Uni Pittsburgh (polish.slavic.pitt.edu/). One comprehensive reference grammar, one students' grammar, one Verbs + elements of grammar handbook. Not forgetting all the other material.

The problem is that most of you lack imagination. You can find a copy of this book on google books LINK but if you absolutely need it that bad and have to have your own copy there’s a couple of good tutorials out there on the net of how to save the material from that site in pdf on your PC so you can read it at your leisure.

I mentioned this in one of my posts, although I did not provide the link to it. But the problem is that this ebook is categorized as having "limited preview" only - meaning that only certain number of pages are available to view (or copy if you wish). And this is not actually my problem, I was just trying to help a bit.

As far as I can tell, there are three levels of viewing Google ebooks: full preview, limited preview and no preview. The newest edition of this particular book is of the latter category. The one pointed by your link allows the reader to browse only 5 out of 40 or so sections.

Open Library (openLibrary dot org) is yet another option. There are usually three usage variants: buying, borrowing on line or reading/copying the books in various formats. Only the old editions books are available in the latter form (I am actually reading now the 1919 edition of Colas Breugnon by Romain Rolland - out of 23 editions in their library. I am enjoying the virtual "smell" of the yellowish pages.). Most much later editions can be borrowed.

I checked - Dana Bielec's book (Basic Polish) is there as well.

My word! That's a complicated pdf - makes Polish seem very complex, actually rocket science would seem simpler.

How about "We Learn Polish" or even the forthcoming "Polish For Dummies" (I think both are far easier than the above, and Polish For Dummies is tailor-made for the likes of me!)

Try then studying rocket science in Polish, he-he!!! :-) I think I once mentioned that the most exhaustive SINGLE Polish grammar source in English is Zagórska Brooks' "Polish Reference Grammar" (1975??, Mouton - The Hague) Her account of Polish numbers is impressive. Am still looking for a cheap, second-hand edition somewhere.
