Hi. Could anyone help me on this one....

To say 'For 25 years....', i have been told it is 'Od 25 Lat...'

Is it the same for 'For 20 years..'? Or is it the 'Lata' version?

I just need it for a brochure and wanted to be sure.

Thanks

Vincent

In both cases you use lat

20 lat
25 lat

On the other hand, 'for 25 years' could also be 'przez 25 lat' some context would help determine which to use.

"Lata" means just "years" for example "Lata temu" - "Years ago"
And "lat" is a version of "lata" but saying in genitive.

Genitive has two questions: whom? of what?
So if you want to say "For 20 years" you should ask "For 20 (of what?) years".

I hope it will help. This is the method that polish children have at school to learn how to change words properly.

- Od jednego roku;
- od dwóch, trzech, czterech, pięciu, dziesięciu, dwudziestu jeden, dwudziestu dwóch, stu pięćdziesięciu siedmiu ... and so on lat.
-----------------------------------------------
- Przez jeden rok,
- przez dwa lata, przez trzy lata, przez cztery lata;
- przez pięć, dziesięć, jedenaście, dwanaście ... dwadzieścia jeden lat ;

- przez dwadzieścia dwa, trzy, cztery lata, then again: dwadzieścia pięć ... trzydzieści jeden lat;
- przez 32, 33, 34 lata, then again 35-41 lat;
- przez 42, 43, 44 lata, then again 45-51 lat;
- and so on ...

Bzdura,

It's 'od 2 lat', 'od 4 lat' as well as 'od 20 lat' and 'od 24 lat'.

Read the question carefully and stop confusing people.

Sometimes in poetic diction, the plural form 'laty' may be seen. For instance, Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz wrote in the last stanza of one of his most romantic verses

"Przez laty do laty....trumna
pomiędzy kwiatami
Wiedź że Dionysus
modli się za nami.
