When do you use 'się'? And what does it mean?

It's "co się stało?" No need for another się at the end. You would use się because it happened by itself. I guess that's the best explanation I can think of.

Do not forget "się" means very often nothing. It just belongs to the verb form. We do not translate it. "uczyć się" means just to learn not "to teach myself". Do not mix meaning of a verb and its etymology. "Jak się masz" means just "How are you". Many other verbs work the same.

"uczyć się" means just to learn not "to teach myself"

Which is the same thing. When you sit and read your course book you learn and you teach yourself.

Another example:

1 - prowadzić = to drive, to ride
2 - prowadzić się = to behave, to conduct (like: to ride yourself)

In sentence:

1 - Doda prowadzi Lamborghini.
2 - Doda prowadzi się źle.

The easiest way that I learned "się" is that is it used for the reflexive.

Ahhh! Interesting. You really have to think outside of the box when translating Polish to English, no wonder googletranslate can't cope!

Many thanks everybody for your help!

When you understand the structures and principles of Polish, it's actually a rather logical language.
