Fine! Southern! You are greek! What do you think, Greek Cypriots share the same nationality with mainland Greeks or they are quite different nation?

Actually they don't. There is no such thing as a Greek Cypriot Nation only a Republic of Cyprus.

One can argue about that but in my opinion nationality is defined by what it states in your passport not by language or religious beliefs

In essence you may be correct but (there is always one) what about people who carry 2 or 3 passports, each from a different country? What nationality are they?

They are exactly the same nation. The issue is complicated.Anyway let's say there are among them the ones who want unity with Greece in one state and the rest who want an independat Cyprus with greek majority and turkish minority.
Greek Cypriots call themselves Greeks or Cypriots and the Greeks of Greeks,Elladites which means residents of Greece. They do not call Greeks in Greece Hellenes(=Greeks) because this would imply that Cypriots are not Greeks since they call the other Greeks.
Greeks in Greece call themselves Hellenes and the Cypriots Cypriots or Hellenocypriots.
Cypriots belong to greek nation like Kreta people,Rodos people, etc. They are just residents of a greek island. They speak greek with a peculiar accent, that resembles very much the accent of Greeks on Rhodes and less the accent on Kreta.

As I see, you are from Ireland. So what do you think about Nothern Ireland's inhabitants, suppose they have GB's citizenship, but in the same time they are Irish?

Actually I am German only living in Ireland. With regards to people from Northern Ireland they now have a choice between passports. People who were born in Northern Ireland but wish to carry an Irish Passport can do so I believe since the good friday agreement

Keep digging. Or alternatively you could admit you are wrong.

I'll help you out once more... you are confusing nationality with the concept of the nation.

A nation is defined by borders and governance. No matter how much you argue, you are overlooking this argument defining fact!

I guess we could just agree to disagree as the two words apparently can have two meanings

Note the title of the thread, namely the term nation. Nationality is different, you can have dual nationality but the two nations in question are seperate.

Hope that helps.

There are only 5000 left. The Turks violated the treaty of 1923 and pushed 200000 Istanbul Greeks out in 1954 in violent pogrom in 1954.

ConstantineK:
and Princes Islands in Turkey?

They are now in Greece.Turks threw them out as well.

ConstantineK:
And Russian Greeks, Georgian, Greeks of Crimea?

Also now they are mostly in Greece. They are called Rossopontioi,it means Greeks around Efkseinos Pontos(black Sea) with russian citizenship.

German nation - degradation or just deviation?

Look who is talking lol Russians, who NEVER lived in freedom and democracy, even now, simply because they don't want to and they wouldn't know what to do with it!
On the other hand Germans and Austrians some of the most successful nations in the world, for sure in Europe. Those two nations have true democracy and freedom, as opposed to Russia, where journalists are getting murdered by secret police even today.

Speaking of which: do you think that Russia will ever change into a democratic and free nation or are they on the way back to the commie times?
Or maybe what they have now is simply it - the new and refined face of communism?

yeah it's a shame for us. i would liked greeks in turkey to stay and live with us but turkish politicians of that day were bastards. on the other hand noone can say greece, yugoslavia and bulgaria treated turks in their troops nicely as well. all countries in the region did their best to make minorities escape.

These crimes can happen anywhere. Fritzl's crime went on for 24 years, and who knows there could be other underground chamber's holding people like Fritzl did.

However, Fritzl did burn one of his "kids" in an oven. That got my mind to wander a bit. *cough* ww2 death camps *cough*

This is very simple, it depends only from how do you truly (without particular interest) consider yourself.

About this guy from Austria. This world is so sick not because very rare freaks like Fritzl, it is sick because media report such stories. Not only they report but analyze every single detail of such cases. This freak shoudl be simply convinced and probably executed but personally I would prefer never learn about his crimes. This knowledge is not necessary at all and gives new ideas to similar freaks. Despite that I haven't read even a single article about this case I have seen his face several times!!

Ha-ha "liberte, egalite, fraternite", all is a malicious French fiction. Men are born bonde and are dying in the same condition.

simply because they don't want to and they wouldn't know what to do with it!

And what are exactly you doing with your "FREEDOM"?

Dice:

Of course it is already democratic, as far as it is needed for current situation.

1) Nation is an issue of self-identification. Austrians and Germans have much in common genetically but these are two different nations.
2) I don't understand russian atacks upon not merely Germany but all the German nation (or... you Kostia probably timed it to "the Victory Day"). They're still most progressive nation in all over the World, we should take off our hat's to them for engineering, philosophers, mental and literal order.

And do remember... The more perfect the body the more sharply and unfairly you see its defects.

For example I guess a Russian would never keep her kids in a refrigerator. She would eat them immediately while they were fresh. This refrigerator is a perversion that shows deep abnormality.

I think you want particular (конкретный, особый) rather than peculiar (странный) although English definitely has its peculiarities as does Russian.

hm, remind yurself on that, when Slavs strenghten and restore their power (and- unite, eventualy).

But even then, i won`t suggest that Slavs desire something what isn`t part of Slavic world. It is well known that Slavs aren`t agressive. Most of our history we defended ourselves from hostile invaders, such are Turks, among many others.
