Hello all,

I came across this forum by chance and enjoyed reading some of the threads. There is certainly lively debate here. My interests in all things Polish came from working in Warsaw for three years and also from some long standing friendships that my Father had. I will try to join in the debates later but for now I will restrict myself to just saying Hi.

Dziêkujê - moi polski jest ochropny (as you can see).

After three years in Warsaw my new friends proudly announced at my leaving party that I could now speak Polish like a three year old! I found it a very difficult language. Not surprising really when you remember the old joke:

'What do you call a man who speaks three langauges? Trilingual
'What do you call a man who speaks two langauges?' Bilingual
'What do you call a man whos peaks only one language?' English

That will be good. I certainly need help. It's amazing how quickly I can manage to lose language skills. I used to be fluent in French and Spanish and had passable Portugese but cos I haven't used them for years I dread to think what they are like now,

Language is a living thing. I used to know French pretty well, reading, speaking, writing and since I stopped using it, I can barely understand anything, a word here and there...

Luckily, I can still manage my polish

I am at a bit of a loss to know where to begin this post. Having just returned from my travels for work and pleasure (I finally got to go skiing) I find that I am an impostor who has told Admin to remove me from the face of the Earth. Mildly disconcerting to say the least. I would just like to put the record straight. Everything that was posted by Globetrotter was penned by my good self. The e-mail that was sent to Admin and the posts claiming that my identity had been hijacked were not sent by me. Sorry Admin for your being hoodwinked. I guess that is the price of freedom of speech.

Anyway I am back and want to continue as a member of the Forum but for clarity I will probably register under a different name, most probably using my Polish nickname given to me my the daughter of a good friend who struggled with my somewhat unusual Christian Name. Mysterious eh? As a clue I will be, in future, good enough to eat.

I have just noticed that a number of the people whose posts I have enjoyed immensely have left the forum and it would appear that others may be thinking of doing the same. That is a real shame. In amongst some of the rants, bigotry and plain old fashioned abuse there are some great topics here. I have particularly enjoyed reading some of the Polish cultural and historical debates. It is difficult not to get sucked into some of the political and religious topics when you see some extreme views that get your back up big time. In future I will ignore such temptations. I usually only discuss these areas face to face with people I know. One of the problems with the written word is that it is too black and white. You need to hear the tone of the comments and the see the way in which they are delivered.

So a fresh start for me. Best wishes to everybody and have a nice day (minor sop to the Americans, although I will stop short of claiming that I’m missing you already)

Thanks Fisz

Went to Montgenevre, part of the Milky Way. Snow was just about OK. Had a few snowfalls during the week to freshen things up. Plus side was that it was pretty quiet so no queues at lifts or bars. Got a bit slushy after about 2ish so had to retire to the nearest bar !

sounds like a good time anyway. I'm glad it's finally freezing cold here now. It's been a crappy winter so far. I'm hoping to make it out to Tahoe again this spring.

Spring powder can be awesome, especially for you boarders. Unfortunately I've now reached the time in my life when the exhilaration of back bowl skiing has been replaced by abject fear.

Fear not Globetrotter. Backcountry, bowls, or chutes are sometime filled with the fluff. To much time smiling to worry about fear

....i'm also fortunate enough to be experienced in both worlds ....skiing-boarding.
