"good bye" - word pronunciation help please

I know this is a dippy question but I would be grateful some some help.
I travel a lot in Poland by train and frequently when people leave the compartment they say - what sounds like - doshvdania - even to me - all very friendly. Is it doshvdania or noshvdania - what does it mean please - good bye ! and how do you pronounce it correctly - is there a phonetic spelling.
Must say for a UK tourist in Poland train travellers are all very friendly, much more so than over here. On some trains, bearing in mind, I do not speak Polish and no one else spoke english, the guard clipped my ticket, told the other passengers where i was changing trains and when we stopped at the right station, the other passengers showed me through to the correct platform. This has happened more than once.
Back to Doshvdania...any help please.

goodbye is "dowidzenia" so it could be they are saying that to you ..

do you know how to spell the more formal virsion T... something like do-zo-ba-chenya...?

Guys, be aware that men very rarely use "do zobaczenia" each other. It sounds a bit funny when guy say do zobaczenia to other guy. Except situation when place of the meeting is mentioned after do zobaczenia i.e. "Do zobaczenia w Londynie"

interesting point Pete. why is this? why is it funny? you;d only say Do widzenia so?

What about do zobaczenia jutro?

Because "do zobaczenia" is rather reserved for couples, girlfiends. Man to other man say "Widzimy się jutro"

super, then its ok. i presume its ok for gay couples too so (not being funny)

I thought 'do zobaczenia' was see you later for anyone. My male friend says it to me sometimes, other times he says

"Trzymaj sie. pa." or "Do zobaczenia. pa."

My husband use to say no Czesc sometimes to say good bye. I of course have been told that the Galaluch (spelling not right) say things a little differntly.
I was also told that Papa is a way of saying good bye to close family & friends.

Yes, mountain folk. He was from a little town West of Krakow called Spytkowice.
He use to tell me that I spoke Polish with a moutain accent like him!

Some of the travellers may be Russian and they say do swidania. They go to Poland a lot, or at least, they used to in order to sell thing on the markets around Poland. Talking about train travel in Poland, be careful not to leave anything to drink in your compartment and leave it and return later and start drinking again. I know of someone who had been returning from Denmark where he worked and he left his drink and then returned to his compartment and drank from it not realizing that the drink had been tampered with in the mean time. It had been drugged. He woke up later in his underpants and everything had been stolen all his presents-the lot. The police at first thought that he was drunk. A warning when travelling by train. Also, never travel on your own in a closed compartment, once someone was robbed and they were then thrown for dead out of the window.

Good bye - do widzenia, you can say it to everyone.

Do zobaczenia - You can also say it to EVERYONE but it's more frequent among friends. It means - 'to the next time we see each other' - it's like goodbye but it means that we will see each other again, e.g. tomorrow at work.
