I found a site on the internet that sells Polish wines and other liquor. It's internetwines.com. I just typed Poland in the search box and they all came up.

Warm? Hmm. Sounds good. I ended up finding some Polish wine in my area and the taste reminds me of cough syrup. But I like one called Nalewka Babuni, Cherry flavor. I like mixing it with 7-Up.

Nalewki aren't wine - they're liqueurs!

The reason you can't buy Polish wine anywhere is because the producers not only get taxed to death they are also hounded by the hygiene police. Malopolska recently started promoting a 'wine route' where you can go to local vineyards and drink their wine, but you won't see it in the shops.

There you go again Sledz promoting your Mad Dog 20/20. That rot gut juice will kill you one day. And to even mention Boone's Farm along with those other ones - I hope you're not a true to life soak. I personally take pride being from Illinois but I certainly don't drink the abovementioned! It's nearly five over here ..... I think I'll go find the next Tyskie Bar? Have a good weekend in Chicago.

Poland and Polish People have no wine tradition at all.
You could say that Poland has decent Vodka and Beer, but what they sell as “wine” over there in most countrys would not even be considered wine. Often it is simply fermented and sometimes carbonated fruit juice.
Most Poles had never tasted or even heard of every day wines such as Merlot, Pinot Noir or Chardonnay. How would they know what a real wine supposed to taste like?
Try Polish Beer or Vodka instead, you won’t be disappointed.

Edit: One exemption from this is mead; a medieval honey wine, which is indigenous to that region, but again, mead is not what we consider real wine nowadays.

could it be something to do with the climate that means Poland is not a great wine producer? or is that

yes, for the most part it's too cold, especially the winters. grapes have a hard time but they do grow maybe just not the wine varieties.

they have wineries in Canada but it's in the southernmost part of the ON.

People, people. Please, don`t make me laugh. Try to find info about Zielona Gora. And this is only one example for polish "wine regions"

Zielona Gora used to be a wine producing city but the wine they made was the one you would not like to drink. These were the common fruit (not grape) based "acids". They grapes they grew then fermented were mostly used to produce spirits (the "wine" was processed by the local distillery to produce some good vodkas) and vinegar. Grape based wine produced was symbolic in quantity and of terrible quality.

I called Zielona Gora home for 20 years, and I also worked in the winery (the one off Jaskolcza Street) one summer vacation. I hear it is not longer in business.

In the latitudes where wine grapes can be grown, when you reach the northern limits, red is not to be recommended. I won't even touch Hungarian red, but their whites aren't so bad. I've never seen Czech wines, so Poland doesn't look like a likely producer.

The only time I've seen Polish people drink wine was at New Year and it was a token glass of Champagne. I had two barely touched glasses handed over to me after they saw me guzzling my glass in the same way they guzzled vodka.

In the past we have invented first crude Brandy. It was much hoter in Poland in 1000 AD.

Now when climate changes and Poland has more opportunities...

We have some very good wines.

wine

From south east (100 new vineyards) in my opinion they have the best wines in Poland.

wine

You can get them in Polish restaurants. In 2009 there was plan to enter wider market.

In south west there are new initiatives as well

Good Polish wines? LOL This must be like the great Polish whisky that actually turned out to be Scotch. Ask dtaylor about this. The great wines in Poland may be a better title.
