Gowno, Sh.it etc. -- auto-censoring bad words on forums

I wonder what is the reason behind censoring English vulgar expressions, but not Polish? Isn;t that kinda funny that we need to use all kinds of tricks to explain meaning of words instead of just spelling them out?

As far as I can see it is in both. See areas you created for people to ask about translations.

So, what's the answer to the origanl question?

Being able to use swear-words in a grown-up manner is the sign of a well-adjusted, totally non ****ed-up society. I think you know what I mean, but if I just put the word ********, you might not really grasp what I'm trying to say.

There are words that don't get through even though they are not rude - ********** for example because within this harmless word, acceptable in front of children and the frail, is a rather unpleasant racial term of abuse.

On the other hand, this American-based site has no problem I have spotted so far with bollocks or felch (the latter being one of the most unpleasant acts that can be described in just one word).

edit again: Furthermore, not all swear-words mean something negative. May I mention zajebista / zajebiscie?

the censor i imagine is to avoid users using these derogatory words to another user.

the adult use of these words is not prohibited however the use in the derogatory sense was dominant over the adult use so it has to be censored to try avoid insult to injury.

valid point about the polish swear words but english is the standing order language here and as such is the language dominantly used to demean other members (some polish swear words are censored i believe)

needless to say, it is the very few who misuse these words too often that ruin it for the rest of us.

I understand the concern, but since the forum owners follow their own development plans, I think they might want to consider some more lax rules in the translation forums.

As for offensive language, few would be at a loss for words if they wanted to offend others, even if vulgar expressions were unavailable.

Point taken, though it is a discretionary matter not a compliance matter. The site owners can make the forum any which way. Im quite sure we can find (or create) a swear forum or indeed a polish swear forum - such is the internet

A quick google search would reveal - or event the free to host forums to create a new one.



Indeed, and the site team has decided to exclude a select few words that carry 'extra' derogatory weight. Again - it was a select few abused the 'abuse' that forced the etiquette hand of PF.com team.

You missed the part that the Polish swear words article was not written by me; it was only posted by me.

Anyway, we can try to disable this feature for registered users only and we'll see how it goes.

In result, however, I expect more membership suspensions because now someone may write "fu.ck you" and it will show as "**** you." (and then the author may argue he/she just wrote 4 stars and you, so it's hard to suspend him/her based on that). When the censoring is disabled and someone writes "fu.ck you," it will be a clear violation of the forum rules and such member is likely to be suspended.

As they say "Be careful what you wish for" ;).

I dodn't miss it. I merely observed that words were not censored. If I also quoted vulgarisms then they would be censored (unless you have some techonology that can tell a quote from direct input)



Circumventing of autocensorship is quite commen here, and I do it too. If this is what warrants my suspension then be it, and I'll respect the decision. But I still think the rule is weird, at least within the language threads.

Obviously Admin and moderators don't have all the technical restrictions regular members may have..


This "autocensorship" feature was useful for some members, even if it was "weird"..

Because, it is mainly only the Polish who swear and use this sort of language.
