Has global warming affected Poland? And in what ways?

I lost my entire fruit crop here in the US last year and I have never seen it so windy. one out of 3 of my neighbors lost their water well last year . I was lucky. Though my natural gas well has improved. This winter has been mostly rain so far and my ornamental flowers now bloom in the spring two weeks earlier that they used to.

we will pay duble bills for electricity (2008) because we have very strict limits of CO (Kioto or sth like that)



winters are shorter so it is good for our economy ;)

Not for the Ski resorts though! :(

I woldn't be investing in any ski resorts right now! We have one near my place that is lucky to be open three weeks a year now here in the US

C'mon, You're in Indiana. What do you expect? You don't have any mountains above 900 ft so they're relying on man made snow most of the time. The mountains where I ride in the North East are over 3000 ft and have 20-60 inches base which is bad for this time of the yr, but at least business is ok.

In Poland it's been 2 yrs in a row that conditions have been bad for skiing/boarding. Even slovakia had exposed rocks early january and the Czech Rep. had maybe 24 in man made base.

This yr in Zakopane there have been more injuries than any other season in history. This area is not good to ski/board when there's so little snow.

First of all you thinks that the Indiana is flat . This I must disagree. I live in hill country near Kentucky and we have some hills over hear! Of course they are not the biggest as you mentioned. They are just... Hills... And you can blame Indiana outright for the missing snow in Poland . We are here generating power with coal fired plants all along the Ohio river. And they are going to build another this year. We are a chugging seagrams whiskey and watching the coal burn . Who needs fresh air when you got a Seagrams palnt in your back yard?

Zakopane is rain sodden today, I dont think this is normal for mid january. Global warming is kicking in everywhere. Temp today got upto +15 degrees celcius in Dolono Slaskie.

Poland in general is very guilty of increasing global warming around the World. For years and years the Nowa Huta in Kraków belted out smoke and fumes. This is not to say that the former Czech Republic too is not guilty of doing its bit. What is always very strange is that Poland was offered so much help in the 1980's and they rejected all assistance. Added to this mess, the Syrenka motor car and the whole country is swamped in poor health and cancer. I know a lot of people in Poland who have died from the effects of industrial pollution. Life expectancy is very short in Poland and is falling even further now.

Think you missed a bit of information out there Michal. This was a factory/foundry/smelting works that the Russians forced the Polish people to operate during Communism. The steel or whatever it is they produced was then shipped back to good old Russia. Nice of them Ruskies to do that wasn't it ?

You forget that many other Countires have contributed to World pollution. Isn't China a very big offender. As always, you show your ignorance by accusing Poland and it's people of something that is far worse in other countries.......you should go to evening classes and maybe get a proper education. Make you more aware of real world issues rather than petty minded ignorant views.

There are theories that suggest that warming may change course or strength of the Gulf Stream. This brings Europe a lot of its weather, and without it, the place would be colder and drier.

There've always been either very 'hard" winters or very mild ones or, very hot summers or cold and rainy ones... Was it last winter or the winter before, when my family in Poland complained about a very cold winter and here in the US, we had it mild.
It seems to switch from year to year...

Global warming is at fault and according to Michal, the one factory in Krakow is totally to blame. So the Polish are at fault.

I so hope we have a hot summer or I am going to emigrate to somewhere hot before WInter 2008. Had enough of the wet and damp now......grrrrrrrrrrr



Yes, Global warming is a real concern. Expect we shouldn't really joke about it BUT it's so wet here atm. Bring back the old fashioned Seasons, we knew where we were then.

Hehehehe. I never thought my old country had a such powerful one factory to cause global warming. ( I thought they were all closed or were sold to western industrialists, only to be shot down by them to eliminate competition).

Anyway, it looks like all we need is one to prosper and mess up the temperature of the entire globe. That's darn powerful for a small country. lol.

Lo........those darn American's.......they gave us McDonalds and Pepsi, making people obese and if that don't kill us then they make sure pollution will BUT if that don't work either then they will ensure Planet Earth dies instead hehehehehe !

It used to be called Czecholovakia before Slovakia parted the ways under the old Communist rule the pollution was dreadful. It is now known as the Czech Republic after the split. Does this answer your question?

I meant in the sense of the old Communist Czech Republic really. I know that they too were very guilty of bellowing out factory smoke that destroyed all the trees.

In the UK the winters are milder and wetter and have been heading this way for some time - we haven’t really had a "bad" winter for quite a few years, what we have had is floods and more floods.....

But lets face it in general people don’t give a toss, landfills are still expanding and we live in a disposable society where goods have a limited life span...and some countries feel that they are above the law when it comes to pollution

That said global warming is gonna happen with or without our help...we may speed it up a tiny bit in the big picture but it is a bit silly to get all uptight about.
