No, I certainly don't go for any of these stereotypes of Polish guys. Yes, of course, there are some trends that could bring out the worst in some people. Eg, a hell of a lot of Polish men, young, married, often with children, have come over to the UK to earn. They have long periods away from home. Some of them - only some! - in this situation, behave like teenagers at university for the first time, away from their parents. Only some. And I don't think that's much to do with being Polish - I think it's more the young men/sudden freedom syndrome.
As for all Poles being drunks, of course they aren't. Yes, again, there's a particular culture re: alcohol. Yes, vodka-drinking men round the table is a cornerstone of Polish male identity, and yes, that plus the excuse (for drinking) of hard lives (sometimes) probably leads to more alcoholism than if they didn't have that culture, but I know lots of Polish men, and have for the past 15 years, and I only know one alcoholic. There IS 'abuse' of alcohol, but no more so (I'd say LESS) than with English men I know. It's just more up front.
Nothing anyone has said in this thread has made me doubt even for a second that a man from Poland is the preferable option for me, given the makeup of my family. And I must say that some of the most wonderful people I know are Polish, some of my greatest and closest friends and allies, and I know we will be close for life. I find all the anti-Polishness on this site just strange, and I still can't believe people think it's ok to express such blase and simplistic opinions!
So no, I don't agree with Kasia ... although I know she was only trying to give good advice based on how she sees things, and I thank her for that. : )
U know i am right! So after ur 3rd strike will u be out? Or will it be a 4rth and 5th dirty pollack boyfriend?
