Have always longed to live abroad, so I'm Moving To Poland

I used to live in Sweden in the 80's and have always longed to live abroad again. Albeit a far cry from Sweden I am thinking of going over to Poland to live with my wife and 4 small children.

I am a Radio DJ and my wife is a nurse. How easy is it to get work there for someone who doesnt speak English,

having had enough of the UK. I feel the need for a change.

Also are the poles welcoming towards the Brits?

Any help and advice that can be given is greatly apreciated.

Thanks Steve

- If you're really good, you'll find work, n/p.

someone who doesnt speak English

- Perhaps it's a slip of the tongue; perhaps you meant: 'someone who doesn't speak Polish'?

- Yes, they are.

I am not sure about radio stations but i know most larger cities IE Poznan, Warsaw etc are always on the look out for club DJ's... Not sure if this is your thing though.

Hope this helps and welcome to PF :-)

Sorry yes I meant I dont speak Polish. Its been a loooong day.

i am not a club DJ. I used to do that years ago now I am a presenter. having worked for some of the UK's large stations. My wife is a qualified Nurse RGN.

I have looked into getting the TEFL certificate and its a two day course. Is it really that easy to do a simple course, gain the qualification, then go over and teach? Would that one wage be sufficient to support a family of 6? My wife would obviously be looking after the children. I dont know who expensive it is in Poland to live.

I also saw an interiew of that British fireman in Poland who said he had been slapped in the face for speaking english in a pub there and also had his finger cut. :(

Thanks again folks, much obliged to you all

Yes it really is that easy to get a tefl certificate, even though some of the courses take longer than other, but no the wages are actually quite poor because it is not considered to be a very good job, and to be completely honest i think you would struggle to supporta family of 6 with this job alone

its important to be aware that anything other than a full cert course - normally 120 hours with not less than 6 hrs teaching practice - is not considered much cop in most of europe including poland

this includes weekend courses and online courses
