Heavy drinking culture in the UK - is it still the same in Poland?

Im an English binge drinker and my bf is a Polish alcoholic... does that mean we are compatible?

MI think alcohol consumption goes hand in hand with amount of sunlight received in winter. The further north you go the more depressive the winters get. People in Lapland drink much more (and worse) than in southern Scandinavia. And in turn they drink more than people in central Europe.

We will see. I hope that it won't change too drastically. Just the improvement of wages would be fine, thank you.

You have to also take into account, that cost of living in Italy are bigger than in Poland. But yes, if they are behaving rude, than they are "trolls".

Well, broadening it out........wife beating, violence, most deaths on roads down to guys, starting wars....etc..........virtually all guys..........?....guys of a certain age...lack common sense..............so assuming you're now older and more sensible.......

People have always drunk to access...why be surprised.........mostly in their younger years...and despite ALL the education...etc...and people who look down on those who do drink.......its getting WORSE...not better.............so?

Well.....look at the drug culture in UK........its worse now by a factor of 10 compared to 20 yrs ago......

What I said was all efforts to date aint worked............who wants a bloody nanny all the time......people make their choices, and then live with consequences...no stupider than the current government!

My guess would be there are more "designer" drugs available nowadays. With methamphetamines and Extacy on the market, there are more drugs that can be produced with common household items, and with technology of internet, kids can find ways to produce such drugs. Just a guess.

Combination of usage/users and the number of addicts.....now more widespread, easier to find a dealer, cheaper, more acceptable to use most drugs, more "acceptable" to be an addict!

Some usage less criminal, easier to access rehab etc.....

I can’t agree with your generalisation, I’m 40 years old and reasonably informed regarding ‘drugs culture’ and I would say that drug users are better informed and more discerning than they were 20 years ago. Certainly Crack and Crystal have issued new challenges for our society, but I still don’t see the 10 fold increase that you describe.

Although I might be incorrect in my opinion, maybe you can show me the research you used to base your opinion on?

Simple marketing/sales facts......more points of sale....more variety, more interest, more likely to use...if wrong drug..more likely to get addicted!!!

I here so much ‘hearsay’ concerning drugs use and it’s associated issues, but never see the ‘10 fold increase’ that scaremonger often refer to.

The I.R.A. control the drugs in Eire don’t they? At least they did 20 years ago.

Can’t argue with that. But given that ‘drugs culture’ has increased 10 fold as your friend has told you, you’d imagine that government would be more reactive as drug use, when it is an illegal drug, is in effect a drain on tax revenue as nobody pays tax on it. The government is loosing 10 times more tax [from illegal drug trade] than it did 20 years ago and yet they have done nothing to do anything about this, even going so far to reducing cannabis use to a lesser crime than it was 20 years ago- shear madness.

I suppose they get away with it because people like me haven’t noticed the 10 fold increase in ‘drugs culture’

Well GB government is known to one of the most "bury its head in the sand" types in the EU..........following the dictats of the USA in all things legal/christian value things too......

Marijuana was legal til the 30s then outlawed by USA ....etc....

Didn't Queen Victoria use a selection of drugs....laudinum ( spelling) being one.....the trouble arises.......when the British masses then want to use..........then its illegal!

im ok if i keep the food and juices up while drinking it, but i think the more i have i seem to forget that. Usually just a beer and whisky drinker.

Danny Dan....I say well said....We have had quite afew of them in my home town, and already the shops are full of Polish food etc??....My problem with them is that they seem to insist on everything being Polish!!....and they all seem to have a chip in their shoulders about World War Two etc.....I feel if we don't send them back to Poland we will all end up with Polish Ghetto's, and then we will all suffer!!

i will say this. Polish are very big drinkers. we just aren't violent ones for some reason. usually someone will drag our ass home if we get piss drunk or we will just sleep at the house we drank at. most other cultures people will become loud, obnoxious and very violent. when Polish people drink they usually tell stories of wtupid or funny things they've done b4. most of the time its men sitting at a table laughing the entire time.

they get loud, but not the kind of loud when they start screaming: "hey....hey.... I love you man....no no, i really do.....and i'm not just say..sy...sayin that cuz i'm drunk man....i love you"

its really fun to be around Polish drunks....if you can understand them. even if you can't its pretty damn funny. Seems like every Polish person has a different laugh when they drink. Anyone else notice this??


Poland is one of the highest drinking countries in the world. #1-Russia, #2- Ireland and so on. we are in top 10. but we have the "good drunks" if you wanna call it that. It's just hard to find drunk guys/girls walking the streets of Poland in the A.M. like you can in US or UK.
