Hello, I'm from England and I'm on here because I'm mad about Poland! I taught English there for a year a number of years ago and loved it and when I went back for a visit this year I fell for it all over again.

I taught in Warsaw, although i travelled to other places when I lived there, like Gdansk, Krakow and Kazimierz Dolny. When I went back I stayed with an ex-colleague from England who stills lives in Warsaw. It was fantastic. The Polish people I meet always make me feel so welcome. I'm even thinking about going back in Easter.

Dzien Dobry Corina

Witam ... i fell in love with poland during a college visit in 2003 esp Zakopane
I am hoping to move to Poland in 2008 from the UK if i am successful in obtaining employment (which is difficult if you dont particularly want to teach ) i am learning the language at college now though on three week holiday due to christmas ... i also eat alot of polish meals too though would love to know how to make this polish chocolate cake that has a filling in the middle (resembles a dome shape) it is absolutely gorgeous

I would love to learn Polish too but there are no classes anyway near where I live. Maybe I should try and get a language exchange if possible... It would be handy for when I go back for a visit.

where do you live if you dont mind me asking? im in doncaster and the local college runs the course since first week in November. it is only OCN level one but it covers the basic which is what you really need ... handy hint begin learning the alphabet as you have to be able to understand that firstly
I also use GaduGadu (polish messenger) as it was recommended to me to find people to help me learn polish

let me know how you do?

Hi Telefonitika!

Thanks for trying to help me! I live outside Manchester where there are classes but it would be difficult to travel in on a weekday evening to attend them. Also, they are really expensive.

Hope everyone had a great Christmas!

Yeah its cost me £157.50 for the polish course level one at Doncaster College which is quite expensive, but covers tution fees and exam and registeration on the course. Have you enquired with local colleges in the area about a course

I am on lekcja (lesson) 7 ... we started off by learning the following:
Polish Alphabet (an absolute must learn without mastering this you may have problems)
Then we worked on the Greetings/Farewells both formal and informal as well as grasping the polish grammer
of ja (i) .. ty (you) .. on (masculine)/ona(feminine)/ono(neutral)(he/she/it) .. my (we) ... wy (you) and knowing chciec (to want) ... studiowac (to study) .... mowic (speak) ... rozumiec (to understand) .. byc (to be) and miec (to have)
learning to count in polish

It is really good and that i enjoy the lessons i just need to practise more vocally to gain confidence in speaking it.

last nights lesson we started on learning about months, seasons etc in polish --- woooooo brain overload lmao

Thanks for all your welcomes!

Your course sounds good telefonitika. At the local colleges they only teach Spanish, French, German etc. I don't know if it would be a good idea to phone the local Polish club and see if they could advise me.

We have a polish society club here in Doncaster but not sure on the details for it internet searches prove fruitless
