Hello Everyone!

This past Sunday was 19 years since I've moved to USA. I was born and raised in Wroclaw and when I was 15 my parents and I moved to South Florida. Right now my husband of almost 14 years and I live in the mountains of North Carolina. I love it here. It's cold enough to have four seasons but not freezing like it was in Poland or as hot as it is in Florida. And of course it's very beautiful and peaceful. I'm looking forward to chatting with all of you!

Welcome Dagmara,
I visited S.C. this year a couple of times (Columbia, Charlotte). Very nice.
I hear that N.C. is just as lovely. Especially, the mountains. I love mountains, but I live in Illinois flatlands...

I live in Western North Carolina, near Lake Glenville, Cashiers and Highlands.
Ankaxx, you're only 2.5 hrs from here. Most of our clients are from "Hotlanta".
No, it's not as cold as it is in Poland. Last week was 60F and today was 30F.
The mountains are beautiful. I'm at 3500 ft so the summers are cooler, usually it rarely gets above 80F. Thanks for welcoming me everyone!
Wroclaw, no I have never been back to Poland. I want to so bad! Everytime I think I have the time and money something else comes up. Feel free to keep me informed on our beautiful city. Pictures would really be nice. My e-mail is dagmarwest@aol.com
I miss Wroclaw very much, it will always be home to me.

Dagmara,

I'll tell you how Wroclaw has changed. Part 1.

When you left I don't think Rynek had a real pub. With the exception of Spiz there were coffee and cake places, which also sold beer. Things changed and the place is full of pubs and clubs. In the Summer all these pubs have outdoor seating so it's great for drinking and people watching.
In 1997 the river Odra rose and flooded a great part of Wroclaw. The flood covered parts of Rynek which made it a no go area. When the flood subsided great repairs took place. But for two reasons. One, Rynek was damaged. Two, John Paul II was due to visit. All the buildings in Rynek were also repainted.
Rynek also has a fountain. It's made of glass and I think it looks good. When it was first revealed there were some complaints because it didn't fit in with it's surroundings. This is a problem with Wroclaw, everything must fit in. Modern doesn't do the city justice. I say bollocks to that.
Do you remember the music shop in Rynek. The one that sold only bootleg cassettes. Well, the law changed and so it had to go. It reopened some time later and then closed for good when Empik opened. Empik is probably the most used shop in Rynek.
Rynek is now a beautiful place with its pubs, restauraunts, expensive shops etc.
In Winter there is an ice rink behind Ratusz, which is very popular.

More later.
