Help with CIS/INS

My husband is from Poland. We are trying to get his recently widowed mother a visa and we Need to get his birth certificate translated into English. We live in Ohio and cannot find anyone. Any suggestions?

I don't think it has to be translated by a certified translator. Pm me. I have done it before.

I don't remember doing it 7 yrs ago with my husband but the I-130 says "ANY Foreign language document must be accompanied by a full English translation that the translator's certified as complete and correct....."
I have tried the CIS help line... but it keeps me on hold for 30 minutes or so and then disconnects. Plus I know the "help" line is a teleservice center and it will only be about 50% accurate with it's information.

What that means is that the translator needs a statement stating that he/she is competent to translate. It does not have to be done by a certified translator. I have done this before and had no problems.

SO... could my husband do it?

Yes he could. He will need a statement from someone who could verify that he is capable of translating, like a student whom he tought Polish, or some institution stating that he knows the language or some other source to verify that he is capable of translating.

yes it does.

basia, if you're in columbus go to the state house.. they have to have a translator on standby.. they should be able to get you in contact with them.

I'm in northern Ohio... much closer to Cleveland.
I'll go to Columbus if I need to.
This is important.
Mom has had so much heart ache... I don't want any more stress for her.

well, cleves being a big city and having a polish population surely has a PL translator.. check with your city hall or look up some polish club or something to that effect.

I think I'll be spending tomorrow in the Slavic village...
Some of them do not speak English. I am only concerned with the "certified" part of the translation. I'll keep looking online tonight and I'll drive to Cleveland tomorrow.
(I was trying to avoid going to Cleveland due to the Indians / Red Sox game. It will be nuts!

I was filing for a visa for someone in Poland this year and it did not need to be translated by a certified translator because I checked into it and asked them personally. The translation needs to be certified that it is correct and accurate by a translator who does not need to be to certified. Confusing.

i'd say "let your fingers do the walking/driving" first. i am sure you can find out w/o a trip just as easy.

I am currently printing numbers to everything I can find online and I'll call from work.

I work for the DHS (law enforcement side) and I know how often the rules change.
What it was a month ago could be different. I can't take a chance and delay things longer.
My husband is leaving next month to help his mom with her assets and getting everything in order for her trip here. After the death of his dad... I just don't want her more upset.

It does not have to be certified.
If you check mu posts you will find everything what you need.

Basia, call the Center and they should refer you to some travel agency, which does translations, before driving there.
