Hello and Welcome Carly.

Employ a Polish-English Liaison Officer.

Invite members of the Polish community in for a chat.

Make a Polish speaking lawyer available.

Don't put milk in the tea. [This is not a joke.]

Greetings Carly,

my boyfriend wants to apply (we have an application form) and working for the Metropolitan Police. It's fantastic that you protect people, and care about Poles also.

Hello Carly,

I would suggest a 30Minute drive to Reading. There is a large Polish community, standing by the Oxford road for 5 minutes with questioniare will yield so many responses if you have a smile on your face.

If all else fails; step into a Maplinka or any buildings with the sign Sklep.
Hope this helps!

Many Thanks Wroclaw for your reply. I am at present organising an open evening at my work place for members of the polish community to attend - this will be advertised hopefully in the free Polish newspaper which comes out weekly but is still in draft format at present

Thankyou Magdushya for your reply - London is a very multicultural city and therefore it is essential that the police are able to cater for the different communities that reside here - without advice and assistance from the community we will never understand their needs. I wish your boyfriend every success with his application

Carly.

What about the better needs of the elderly community??? community bobbies are a thing of the past and they have very little in the way of protection in their communities.

Could you please explain to why a minority group should receive special treatment? We already spend Billions on translations and interpreters, so now the Police have to waste money and time too...

When resources are so stretched at the moment shouldn't police be policing area's that need it most instead of trying to be so P.C. and trying to cater for the needs of immigrants and that goes for all immigrants.

Special treatment is for those that are unable to look after themselves and from I can tell Polish people are getting on very nicely without community liasion officers round offering tea and sympathy!

Thank you Sadie for your response.

Consulting London on a broad range of issues, both locally and London wide, is one of the ways the Metropolitan Police service engages Londoners to ensure we understand the needs, wishes and priorities of the communities we serve.

Safer Neighbourhoods is about local policing; police and partners working with communities, to identify and tackle issues of concern in their neighbourhood.

Safer Neighbourhoods teams are dedicated to your community and are additional to other policing teams and units in London

You can find more information on www.met.police.uk

Carly,

Thank you for your response, but I see that you work in PR of some sort, because my question was nicely skirted around.

Ola123,

I never drink tea at all. But I do think it is important, when putting someone at ease, that you should have some idea of customs and traditions. Especially when you might be dealing with delicate situations.

Alan Gordon, Vice-Chairman of the Police Federation, was quoted this week as saying "If the public knew how few police officers were on duty at night, they would be amazed" - The Daily Telegraph, p.23, 13.2

This is at a time when police numbers are suposedly at an all time high...

The question of where are all the officers are, and how they spend their time, has been a matter of contention between chief constables and successive Home Secretaries... it now appears that we have an answer...

...they are busy engaged in pointless PR excersises or attending tea parties with ethnic minorities... whilst many who read this forum have no idea what policing is like in the UK, some of us live there... and are fully aware when spin is being applied...

Because I don't like to get involved (name calling, people being two faced, back stabbing etc - I see quite a bit in here), I have seen some of the recent posts and how people behave, like I said I post on what I feel is important or relevant and try to be objective.

Maybe if you registered then you could have your conversations elsewhere rather than on a thread where somebody is clearly looking for an adult response to some work being undertaken - if you disagree with what is being done then that is fine you are entitled to your opinion but then leave the thread for those that wish to give some advice which may be helpful - did it ever dawn on you that the individual is just doing a job that they have been asked to do. You wasn't jumped on for your comments and neither was your question skirted around what was given was some facts about work that is being done which clearly you had no idea about. People are forever complaining but when somebody attempts to make a difference it is them that gets jumped on

I dont want to sound rude, but the person who posted the thread did in no way answer my questions and as BubbaWoo said it was spin, another example of PR, time wasting and money wasting and as an English person I find it quite offensive that minorities are given "special treatment", could English people living abroad expect the same? The answer to that question is no.

In England foreigners receive free English classes along with other help, if I were to go and live in Italy, do you think the government would give me free Italian lessons and help looking for a job?

My point is that if people arrive in the UK then they should abide by the laws set out and fit in to the communities that they live in, also as I have stated Polish people seem to be doing just fine with the intervention of the Met, you must understand that the British goverment loves to spend money on usless things, rather than actually spending it where it should be spent, in this instance, the money would be better spent on policing areas which have a high crime rate and getting more police back on the beat, gone are the days where you see a policeman and know him by name.

I have no intention of joining the forum for my reasons I have alreaded posted.

Thank you for your comments.

That I believe answered your other

I feel it is more that you was wanting a specific answer and it was not what you got.

And in response to that I would also say that why indeed should they - they posted a thread asking for help from the polish persons living/working in London you did not answer theirs

I don't know much about Italy, but if You go to Netherlands, You can expect this kind of assistance.

I don't think that Police is only interested in Polish opinions. Community Support Officers are visiting my home regurarly to ask if I have any suggestions regardind safety issues in my area. Wkhat I think is that they want to know opinions of all resident - regardless whether they are from minority, or not. Number of Polish immigrants in UK grown up due to joining UE, that's why they want to know their expectations - Poles may have totally different issues than English-born or Indian. Police is to take care all of us - we pay taxes like everyone else in this country - we expect care like everyone else, too.

How the government spend money is rather political dispute - and everyone - including immigrants - pay price for their decision and ideas. Meeting police officer with polish community is not the biggest financial issue in spending taxpayers money...

But in the end you can go home to Poland, the majority of English are here for life, so you will agree that the policies and so on, in the long term will affect English people.

Again I do not want to sound rude because your post was very balanced, but why should the Police spend time on impoving immigrants lives whilst disregarding the English?

I agree with you totally, everyone deserves to live in a safe place no matter what their nationality.

My point about the money wasting was, that time is being spent on unnecessary PR exercises, rather than getting on with policing.

community policing in much of the uk is falling woefully short of the mark... whilst the reasons behind these PR exercisies are obvious i am far more concerned with the inadequacies of grass-roots policing that impact on my day-to-day life and those of my family... when these have been sufficiently tackled then look elsewhere... not beforehand...
